We’re eagerly anticipating several releases in 2023, including Android 14 and the Samsung Galaxy S23, as the year draws to an end.
LG’s Telephoto Camera for Smartphones
Beginning the new year will be the Consumer Electronics Show 2023 (CES), a tech event.
LG Innotek has announced that they will display a telephoto camera module for mobile phones at the event in a few days.

Smartphones today either utilize digital zoom and AI or a telephoto lens with the capability of altering the focal length, such as the S22 Ultra’s impressive 10x optical zoom.
Periscope Lens
The latter method maintains image quality but requires a complex periscope lens configuration.
Compared to a camera with a fixed focal length, using a lens drains the batteries faster, takes up more room, and incorporates more delicate mechanisms.
Optical Zoom
LG Innotek has developed a telephoto lens module capable of providing between 4 to 9 times optical zoom. It also has OIS (optical image stabilization) included, so that you can take clear photos even when fully zoomed in.
The organization claims the actuator which adjusts the arrangement’s focal length can move with an accuracy of a micrometer.
Less Power Consumption
The company states that the new lens design is more compact and the actuator uses less power.
More Information
LG Innotek is developing a camera module with the potential to be used in smartphones; however, we do not yet know its sensor resolution or when it will be revealed – currently scheduled for CES 2023.
The company hasn’t released information regarding the new telephoto shooter but is working with Qualcomm which could result in faster-focusing cameras and improved image quality.
LG Innotek is assisting in the optimization of software for zoom lenses, the effects of which are applicable to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.
The timeline for this technology appearing in smartphones is still unknown.
Unfortunately, LG’s smartphone wing was shut down before the LG Rollable could be released, but their Innotek wing might have something great planned.
