People often ask, how much does onward cost VR?
Let’s find out!
How Much Does Onward Cost VR?
The Onward VR costs $199 to start and you can upgrade later for $99.
You can also get a free headset with the purchase of an Oculus Go or Quest.
If you want to buy the headset without buying the computer, it will be more expensive.
However, if you already have a computer, then this is a great way to try out VR at home.
A Beginner’s Guide To ‘Onward’ On Oculus Quest
Downpour Interactive’s VR multiplayer first-person shooting game Onward is now available for Oculus Quest, bringing with them the full PC VR experience.
This includes five versus five multiplayer matches, single and cooperative play, and an array of realistic weapons, surveillance technology, and other tactical gear designed to keep you alive in battle.
Unlike other VR games available for Oculus Quest, Onward requires an enormous amount of teamwork and strategy in order to survive, which means memorizing map layouts, familiarizing yourself with a wide range of weapons and gear, and getting comfortable with gathering intel.
For anyone who hasn’t played Onward yet, the best place to start would be to check out our review of the game.
We gave it an 8/10 rating, praising its excellent combat system and beautiful visuals.
However, if you’re just starting out, then you’ll probably want to know what else you should expect from the game before diving in headfirst. Here’s everything you need to know about Onward on Oculus Quest!
Familiarize Yourself With the Weapons and Tools of Onward
The most obvious tip besides completing the tutorial is to familiarize yourself to the wide range of weapons and equipment at your disposal.
Before starting each match you’ll have an option to select either one faction or another. Each faction features their own unique arsenal of weapons to choose from.
Take some extra effort to try out a handful of guns in Free Roam before entering a real battle.
Each weapon has its own unique layout so it’s usually best to practice shooting and reloading before taking part in a full scale war.
Compare the stats of the guns, such as their recoil, rate of fire, and accuracy, to find the best fit for your playstyle.
You can select from multiple class types, each complete their own unique weapons and two load-outs. The general rule of thumb is to pick one load out for daytime and another for nighttime.
In large, well-lit maps, for instance, you might want to equip an aerial rifle. On smaller, darker maps, though, you might opt for NVG goggles instead. Every item costs a certain number of points, so you should carefully weigh your options before purchasing them.
Duck & Cover
When you’re out on the field, make sure to duck down and hide behind something! This may sound like common sense, but you’d be amazed how often we see people standing around in the open, shooting at enemies without any regard for their own safety.
Like a real warzone, staying behind cover can mean the key to survival. Use the Quest’s 6DoFs functionality to your advantage; hug the wall as tight as you can, only popping out to fire when you know you’ll hit something important.
When shooting from behind a piece of furniture, turn your gun sideways so that the barrel points away from the target. This will lower the sight line of the gun, exposing less of your torso to enemy fire. You may be able to use a side-mounting sight for better accuracy.
Be available for questions and feedback.
In addition to communication with your teammates, collecting intelligence using aerial and ground vehicles is essential. Using equipment such as an aircraft and ground vehicle, you can remotely scan local areas for enemies, giving you a better idea of where they’re located. However, beware as opponents may shoot down and disable your vehicles, leaving them out of action until the end of the game. Information is the most powerful weapon in any battle.
If you’re not sure, shoot first.
9 times out of 10 the winner of a gunfight in Onward is the one who fired first, so don’t hesitate to squeeze that trigger.
Obviously, you should never spray and pray, but sometimes firing a little early can actually prove beneficial. One technique you may see floating around is “pre-firing.”
This is when you begin shooting at an enemy before making visual contact so that you’re guaranteed the first shot. Of course, this technique requires that you already know the enemy’s position before attacking. Still, when used correctly, this is a highly-effective maneuver.
And there you have it! Five simple steps that can help you get better results in battle. For veterans of the game, these might not come as much of a surprise.
But for newbies, they’re worth repeating. These five points cover everything from how to build your character to what equipment works best.
Onward isn’t perfect, but it has its charms. The control scheme feels clunky at times, and some of the gameplay mechanics can be frustratingly difficult.
However, these issues are easily overlooked once you get into the swing of things. If you enjoy fast-paced third-person shooters, then Onward is definitely worth checking out.
