League of Legends was among the first video game titles to have a truly robust ranking system for its player base. At first, gamers could even play ranked matches against their buddies and improve their teams by grinding them to the top.
Sadly, that is gone but ranked systems for League of Legends have been changing since the beginning of time. This season will not be any different. Here are the major changes that will happen when the ranked system returns in Season 13.
Riot Games Update
With the latest Riot Games update discussing some of the changes for ranked in 2023 with Season 3, there will be two separate splits.
This means that there won’t be any major changes for the first season. It will start when it usually does in January.

Then the second season starts in the middle of the next year but they haven’t set a date yet. Fans should expect some point in May or June but not later than July.
Changes to Promos
After this, they describe arguably the biggest change, which is the promotion system between tiers. They say that basically, most players reach their desired rank and then quit because of how long it takes them to get to the following rank.
It’s going to be a big conversation around this change. A few years ago, if you wanted to move up from Bronze to Silver, you’d have to play the best of three matches. Now you can just play your way through Silver to Gold without having to win two out of every three matches.
Some fans argue that Best of 3 also implies fewer chances to get lucky.
Instead of a player dropping two of his/her promotions and then immediately going into three straight, he/she will need to ensure that he/she doesn’t lose both of his/her first promotions. This will certainly be an exciting match to watch.
Skins and Rewards for All
They’re changing their ranking system so that players don’t feel pressured to grind for gold anymore. Instead, they’ll receive a special skin called “Victorious” when they reach certain milestones.
Instead, it will just be for everyone but there won’t be any chroma to indicate how high someone is ranked.
With there being two Splits now, they’re making two Victorious Skis instead of just one. It seems as though Riot Games are preparing to give away free skins for playing League of Legends more frequently than before.
Overall, there will be some big things to look out for when Season 13 closes. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
