The first great thing about the headset is its price. It’s well within the reach of most consumers out there and a great option for people that want to get into VR without spending too much money.

It’s a great first product to get into VR. With it, you can judge if virtual reality is really something that you want to get into or just wanted to enjoy as a novelty.

Buyer’s Guide

hyper vr headset review

We understand that it can be very exciting to buy a VR headset. This is true for when you buy any piece of tech that’s going to add value to your life. However, we must implore you:

Don’t rush buying a VR headset.

The key to purchasing a VR headset that fulfills all of your needs is research and the thing about research is that it takes time.

You should research any piece of tech that you intend to buy. With VR headsets, it’s doubly important because if you end up with the wrong product, it may be downright unplayable.

The factors you must assess to make an informed decision on a VR headset include:

Price

The price of VR headsets varies wildly.

You can get mobile-based VR headsets for as little as $20 whereas if you go towards the higher end, headsets can cost up to $1500.

Hence, it’s really all about what your budget is and how much money you’re willing to spend. However, you shouldn’t think that you have to dish out exorbitant amounts of money to get your hands on VR.

The technology is, after all, more affordable than ever. If you don’t have a ton of money to spend, that’s okay. It only means that you must be more careful with your research and find the best option within that price range.

Be careful with budget-friendly options.

This is because a VR headset might be cheap because of specific reasons. It might not have all the features that you need. It might not be well-built or it might have certain adjustability options that you might require.

It’s expected for lower-end options to be lacking in certain features. However, it’s your job as a consumer to research which features you absolutely need and which ones you could do without.

Once you have that figured out, you can start sifting through the budget-friendly options to find a VR headset that fulfills all of your particular requirements.

Ease of Use

It’s super important for VR headsets to be easy to set up and also easy to use for a number of different reasons.

Firstly, there are many VR users who might not actually be regular gamers. This means that they might not be savvy enough to tackle certain technical issues that a wonky VR headset might present them with.

Secondly, it’s highly annoying to deal with technical issues when you’re trying to play in VR. Some technical faults may cause you to become nauseous and turn what’s supposed to be a fun experience into a highly unpleasant one.

You might not even want to play after something like that happens.

Hence, a VR headset needs to be easy to configure. Furthermore, it needs to have minimal bugs. If you look up user reviews for a particular headset and you see a lot of reviews that say that they had to spend time fixing many issues, that’s a red flag.

Also, try to opt for a VR headset that has some type of internal memory. This is because such a VR headset will be able to save your configuration settings and all of your preferences within it. So, you won’t have to readjust everything at the start of each VR session.

Design and Comfort

As you already know, VR can be a very physically strenuous activity. As a result, your head may move back and forth along with your body. To ensure the VR headset stays on your head, many of them are fixed quite tightly to it.

However, as you can probably imagine, such a setup can become highly uncomfortable and unpleasant after a while. Thus, manufacturers are faced with the challenge to ensure the headset doesn’t fall off while also being comfortable to wear.

This is done through clever design and adjustability options.

First of all, you want your VR headset to have adequate cushioning inside of it. This ensures that no part of your head is in contact with hard plastic that can become downright painful after a few minutes.

Furthermore, along with the cushioning, the headset must also be designed in a way so that the inside of it is well-ventilated. This’ll ensure that you don’t get too hot inside of it.

Make sure that any VR headset that you intend to buy comes with a variety of adjustability options. Examples of these include an adjustable head strap, adjustable lens distance, adjustable pupil distance, and more.

Every human is different and the same settings and sizes won’t fit everyone. Thus, your VR headset should give you the freedom to adjust its size so that it can sit comfortably but also securely on your head.

Compatibility

When it comes to compatibility, you can sometimes be bound by your budget since VR headsets for certain platforms are often cheaper than others.

Mobile-based VR headsets are by far the cheapest option for virtual reality in the market. Most of them cost under $100 and you can easily snag them to use with your smartphone.

The quality of VR that you get on such VR headsets can be good but it doesn’t match up to higher-end options.

Stand-alone VR headsets can get pretty expensive but the most popular one, the Meta Quest 2 can be bought for a mid-range price. It’s a great option for the price since Oculus really is the leading platform for virtual reality innovation right now.

Console VR headsets are a great option if you already own a console and that console has a VR headset option for it. The prime example is the PS VR headset for the Playstation 4 and 5 consoles.

PC VR headsets give you the most freedom by far and you can even use them to create VR experiences of your own. However, this is only a worthwhile option if you already have a powerful enough PC rig to support virtual reality.

Field of View (FOV)

This is something that most consumers don’t really consider when buying VR headsets but they really should.

If you buy a VR headset that does not have an adjustable FOV and the FOV it comes with is not suitable for you, it will be downright unusable for you. This is because a wonky FOV will cause you to become nauseous every time you put the headset on.

You won’t be able to have one pleasant experience with it and thus, it’ll effectively be a waste of money.

We recommend that you buy a VR headset that comes with an adjustable FOV so that you can tinker with it and find the best settings for yourself. If you can’t afford a VR headset with an adjustable FOV, then we recommend something between 110 and 120 degrees.

That’s pretty close to actual human vision and thus, it feels natural. Most people that have headsets that offer such FOVs typically don’t face too many motion sickness issues.

Wrapping Things Up

That’s the end of our Hyper VR Headset review.

Overall, it’s super affordable and an optimal choice for people that want to try out VR for the first time. Most people these days have a smartphone and a mobile-based VR headset like the Hyper VR Headset allows you to get a taste of virtual reality with relative ease.

The headset is surprisingly durable for its price and also, comfortable at the same time.
