The matter has long been considered the next big thing in smart homes, but after years of delay, no one could tell when we’d actually be able to see the real hardware that works across platforms.

Fortunately, just a few months after its official launch, the long delay for Matter support has finally come to an end.

Privacy-focused Eve has announced that it’s adding Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa support to three of its smart devices.

Eve Products Compatibility

Eve has so far been only compatible for use with Apple HomeKit, which is exactly the kind of walling garden Matter plans to scale up. A few months ago, when we had an early look at how Matters works, Eve was one of the first brands to show off its cross-platform functionality.

It’s not surprising that Google Assistant was the first device to get an official Alexa skill.

Eve’s Smart Home Update

According to The Verge, Eve has released an updated version of its app that adds Matter compatibility to its three Thread-enabled products: the Energy smart socket, a door/window contact sensor, and a light switch.

How to Install the Updates?

You can update any of these Eve products to the latest version if you want to be able to use them with other smart devices.

However, if you want to install the new Home app, you’ll need to use either an iPhone or iPad and one of the Home hubs (HomePod, HomeKit-enabled smart speaker, etc.)

You won’t be able to revert back to the old Home app after installing the new one.

Eve’s Upcoming Android App

With Matter, you’ll need to manually update each device you buy from Eve. But starting in 2023, Matter will be baked into all of Eve’s smart home gadgets. And with Eve’s upcoming Android app, using them won’t require any special skills.

Matter Support

If you update your compatible Eve devices with the new Matter update today, you won’t be able to fully utilize the interoperability features of Matter just yet.

That’s because neither Google nor Amazon has brought Matter support to their smart speaker and display products, with only Samsung Smart Things available as an Apple HomeKit alternative.

Did you know NASA’s Mars Curiosity has captured its first-ever audio recording of a martian dust devil?

Meanwhile, Amazon has announced that it will be upgrading its Alexa speakers by this December with Matter. We’ve not heard anything on that yet, but we’re hoping for good news.
