DALL-E 2 is an improved version of the original DALL-E. It was released earlier this year.

DALL-E (Deep Auto-Encoders for Language Modeling) and DALL-E2 (Deep Auto-Encoder for Language Modeling Version 2) are two neural network systems developed by OpenAI to create images from language descriptions.

Those text-to-images are called prompts. The system could create realistic images just from a simple description of the environment.

DALL-E (Deep Auto Learning for Language Understanding) is an artificial intelligence algorithm that generates images from text. It understands language through textual descriptions and learns from the data provided by users and programmers.

DALL-E 2

DALL-E 2 can create unique images based on words given by the creator and artist. It has been improved from its predecessor.

How Does It Work?

It takes the algorithm within the words, places them into a sequence of vectors, then generates an original picture from the generic description it was given from its dataset, using the text provided by the artist who created the piece.

Release

DALL-E, an artificial intelligence system designed by Google Brain, was announced in January 2021, but didn’t enter a public release until July 2022. It sent out 1 million invites to its waiting list at the time of launch.

On September 22, OpenAI removed the waiting list for DALL-E so that people could start using it right away.

Higher Resolution

Both DALL-E, which was unveiled in January 2020, and DALL-e 2, revealed in April 2020, were created by OpenAI but differ in terms of the number of their neural network’s (NN) layers.

This is achieved by generating higher-resolu­tion pictures. DALL-E employs 12 billion parameters, while DALL‑E 2 uses 3.5 billion parameters, with an extra 1.5 billion parameters for enhancing the quality.

Parameters

DALL-E 2 creates images of higher quality, but it uses fewer parameters than its predecessor. It also learns the relationships between the pictures and the words describing them through a process called “diffusions”.

There is usually a sequence of patterns that gradually changes into an image when it recognizes certain features of that image.

Researchers at DeepMind have developed an algorithm that generates computer programs from natural language requests.
