With the release of the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, Android 13 QPR2 Beta 1, we will see some new and exciting changes appear over the coming weeks.

1080p Support for the Pixel 6 Pro

One of the most interesting features to appear in the latest version of Android 10 is the ability to play videos at full HD resolution on the Google Pixel 6 Pro.

Mishaal Rahman quickly found the new feature, and we can see his commitment in the official dataset released by Google.

If you’re not familiar with what this all means then it means that starting next month, Pixel 6 Pro owners will be able to change their screen resolution from 1440p to 1080p without needing to use a third-party app.

Battery Life

There are several good reasons to do this, but doing so would primarily improve the battery life of devices that use a lot of graphics processing units (GPUs).

For example, when playing games or even editing videos, you may want to use the Battery Saver mode to adjust settings. However, changing the screen brightness can have a huge effect on battery life.

How Can You Try It?

For now, this feature will be available only for the Android 13 Q PR2 B1 release, so if you want access to it on your Pixel 6 Pro device, you’ll need to sign up for the preview program and then download the OTA update or manually download the APK file from the Play Store.

You’ll either need to back up any important files before installing the beta or be prepared for some potential problems when using the beta.

Compatibility

You’ll first want to check if your phone is compatible. Currently, the latest beta version is only available for the

  • Google Pixel 4a
  • Pixel 5
  • Pixel 5a
  • Pixel 6
  • Pixel 7 series phones.

Battery Percentage

On initial swipes in Beta 1, the estimated time remaining for the battery to run out has been replaced by a battery level indicator.

Previously, the percentage would always appear there (irrespective of whether you had ‘Show battery percentage in the menu bar enabled).

If you’re one of those who want the old approach back, then keep the battery percent on the initial swipe but show the estimated time remaining with the full screen. A compromise would be having both options available.

Huawei is planning to release two new smartphones. We’ve covered the model of those Huawei phones and the date of release that in our complete article, check it out.

Quick Settings

When you fully expand Quick Settings by tapping the three dots at the top right corner, the percent remaining disappears when there is no network connection. The estimated time left for the phone to charge and the name of the current cellular provider appear on one row instead of two rows.

Digital Clock

On the other side, the biggest difference between the old and new versions was a much bigger digital clock. On QP1R1, the time on the page stayed the same size as the previous one.

It now grows from the top left corner as you drag the shade down. With the date/time below, it looks a bit like the lock screen.

This larger clock is definitely very readable, but it’s so distracting that it might be better if they made some changes before releasing it.
