Guide to Buy

You may be overwhelmed when you’re looking for a speaker to buy. You may not know what you really need or what would be most appropriate for you. However, you’ll find that making a choice becomes a whole lot easier once you know which aspects to look for in a speaker. Let’s discuss some of these aspects:

Peak Power Handling

The peak power handling of a speaker refers to how much power the speaker can handle at any given time. It’s often advertised quite heavily with speakers as big numbers tend to impress customers. However, the RMS rating is what’s more important when judging how much power a speaker can handle.

RMS Rating

The RMS rating (or RMS power handling) refers to the amount of power a speaker can endure over a certain period of time. It’s a more accurate measure of how much wattage a speaker can handle without blowing out.

Price

You’re going to want to keep the price as low as possible but bear in mind that lower-priced speakers are often made from lower-quality materials. As a result, they won’t sound as good and they might not last you as long as higher-priced speakers.

Hence, you should always look at what you can afford and opt for a speaker at the higher-end of the range of what you can afford.

Weight and Size

This is going to depend on where you’re going to place the speaker and whether you’ll be moving it around a lot or not.

If it’s going to be in the same space permanently and you have enough space, you can opt to invest in a larger speaker.

On the other hand, if you don’t have a lot of space and/or if you’re going to be moving the speaker around a lot, then you may want to invest in something smaller and more portable.
