Screenshots are a useful tool that has been receiving much attention from Microsoft in the past few years. With the latest Windows 11 update, users now have access to a versatile recording tool, so they don’t need to use a workaround to capture videos of their actions.

Snipping Tool App

With Build 11.2211.35.0, Windows Insiders will be able to use the Snipping Tool to capture screenshots and videos of their desktop.

How Does it Work?

  • Users should be able to click the “Snip” icon from the menu bar and then select the “recording” tab when they’re ready to start recording.
  • You can select which part of the screen you’d like to capture by highlighting it first.
  • You can also preview your videos before saving and uploading them.

Bugs

Of course, insiders who get their hands on the Windows 10 Insider Preview should expect some bugs with the early version. However, Microsoft is already aware of the issue and is working on a solution.

Feedback

You can give feedback by opening the Feedback hub with Win+F and navigating to Apps>SnippingTool.

When Will it Launch?

It’s unclear when the screen recording app will officially launch, though we don’t expect it to happen any time soon. A Microsoft spokesperson declined to provide an official release date.

Third-Party Programs

Many people will probably be happy to see Microsoft adding a built-in screen recorder to its operating system. Until now, Windows computer users have had to use third-party programs like CamStudio or Camtasia Studio to record their screens.

The closest thing to an official Microsoft-built option has been the Xbox game bar which worked across the operating system but was primarily meant to record video from gaming sessions.

The new feature in the Snipping tool is probably better equipped to record other actions for educational purposes or other types of presentation.

Conclusion

Since introducing the modern version of Windows’s screenshot function four years ago, Microsoft continuously updates and reorganizes it. Last year they combined the Snipping Tool and the Snip & Sketch apps into one.

If you don’t want to wait and want a third-party solution, Techtyche recently updated its best free screen recorders for Windows and Mac. We even list out key features to look for when picking one.
