Live2D can sometimes be a bit confusing because it pops up in various locations. However, if you think of Live2D more as a plug-in than an app, then it becomes easier to understand.
This is a method for animating digital avatars by layering 2D art onto them. For example, the eye would be on a different layer than the face, and by moving the eye slightly, the effect creates the illusion that the avatar has moved its position.
With Live2D, you can create an illusion of three-dimensional artwork without having to use a 3D model.
FaceRig
FaceRig is one application that utilizes the Live2D (or face capture) technology. However, there is more to FaceRig than just Live2D.
With your computer’s built-in camera, this app tracks your head and facial movement and converts them into an onscreen avatar, which can be selected from a wide range of 3D and 2d avatars.
You can use your digital character in front of a variety of backgrounds, or just let them be over something plain or even greenery for future greenscreen effects.

Where it really shines is its multi-device nature. It works across multiple platforms including iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and even desktop browsers.

We don’t know if it would be practical for us to make full-fat Youtube videos using our mobile app, but many YouTubers use their phones to create videos, and with VTube studio, they can do the same.

Wakaru
Wakaru is basically the same as VTube studio in terms of features, but it has a different lineage.

The name, Vtuber Maker, is a bit misleading (and has resulted in some negative feedback as a result).
You don’t “create” Vtubers; instead, you use an app called Animoji Studio to create animated characters from your face. However, you can use Animoji Studio for free.
With its customizable widgets, background images, and various gestures, the application lets you create an interactive experience for yourself.
VRoid Studio
Unlike the above VTube maker, VRoid Studio allows you to create your own VTubers.
It is heavily geared toward the Japanese animation style of aviators that dominates the Vlogger space, but it has a user interface that makes creating a professionally looking avatar accessible for even the least artistic among us.
VKatsu
VKatsu is a good tool for creating animated digital avatars. You can create your own avatar, select from several pre-defined avatars, change the color scheme, and more.
Downsides
There are some downs sides to using this app. You will need to own an Oculus Rift headset to use it.
It is written in English, so it is accessible to anyone regardless of their native language.
Finally, it is in early access, which isn’t necessarily a bad idea, but if you read the FAQ for the game, it says that they plan to release the game in 2018.
Cost
It’s free and very capable. You may want to give it a go if you have a compatible VR headset and speak Japanese (or aren’t bothered by having to figure out what the buttons do).
VRChat
It’s called “VRChat” because it lets people create avatars of themselves and then interact with others in a virtual environment.
The useful thing here is that it has full lip sync and eyesight-tracking functionality, as well as gesture control. It can also be used for vlogging. VRChat isn’t designed for vloggers as such, but it could definitely be used that way.
Unity
Unity is a popular open-source game development tool that has been used to create a variety of different types of software applications. It is a versatile platform that can be utilized for a wide range of purposes.
