If you are planning on making a gaming channel or you are an EddieVR fan, you must be curious to know what VR EddieVR use. Let’s find out about the VR headset along with its working and specifications.

What VR Does EddieVR Use?

EddieVR uses Oculus Rift VR headset.

Oculus Rift VR

After years of development, the retail version of the Oculus VR virtual reality (VR) headset finally arrived in 2016.

After that, the excellent Oculus Touch Motion Controler was added to the Rift as an add-on for $598, which slashed $100 off the original prices of both the headset and the controller.

With the addition of the Oculus Touch controllers, the Rift is more appealing than the more expensive HTC Vive.

Pros

  • Immersive VR experience.
  • Works with Oculus and SteamVR platforms.
  • Now includes both traditional gamepads and Oculus Touch Controllers.

Cons

  • Requires four USB ports to fully function.

What do You need?

Official requirements for the Rift are nearly identical to the requirements for the HTC Vive. Oculus recommends

  • an Intel i5-4590 or better CPU
  • An Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290 or a better graphics card
  • at least 8GB of RAM
  • an HDMI 1.3 output
  • three USB 3.0 ports
  • one USB 2.0 port

One of those ports is for the additional sensor of the Oculus Touch controller, and you can set up the Rift itself with just two USB 3.0 ports: one for the headset and one for the external sensor.

Design

The Oculus Rift headset looks plain but has some nice features. It’s a rectangle with rounded corners and a bit of visual flair.

Appearance

The headset itself has no buttons or controls; instead, it connects to a computer via a USB cable. It’s designed to be worn on your head, so there are no physical buttons or controls.

Strap

A helmet has two straps that extend from each side of your face, with one strap going across the top of your skull, and another strap going down the middle of your forehead.

The straps are held together by Velcro® and can be easily adjusted to fit different sizes.

Headphones

On-ear headphones sit on your head, allowing them to move independently from each other so they can be adjusted to fit perfectly on your ear.

Comfort

On their own, VR headsets are quite lightweight and comfortable. However, if you’re wearing them for long periods of time, they may be too tight.

Cable

The headset plugs into your computer via a long cable that splits off at the end into an HDMI connector and a USB 3.0 port.

The cord runs from the top of the headset to the bottom of the controller. It’s a bit more awkward than the over-the-head cord of the HTC Vive.

However, it’s not nearly as large a concern in use as HTC Vive’s cable, because the Vive is meant to be used when you’re walking around an enclosed space.

Controls

The Oculus Touch motion controller was initially released as an optional add-on for the original Rift headset but has now become part of the standard Rift bundle. It isn’t the only option available, however.

Oculus Remote

The Oculus Touch controllers are small, round bars with a large, circular touch screen and four directional controls (left, right, up, and down). They come with a lanyard so they don’t fall off your hands when you use them.

Xbox One Wireless Controller

The Oculus Rift also comes with an Xbox One wireless controller, and a Microsoft Xbox Wireless adapter for Windows so you can play PC games using them.

Oculus Touch Controllers

With the Oculus Touch controllers, the Rift’s controls reach parity with the HTC Vive’s, which has included motion controls out of the box since its launch.

Setup

It’s easy to set up the Rift. All you really have to do is download the Oculus setup software from their site.

  1. Plug the headset and sensor into your PC, using an HDMI port and three USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports.
  2. First, pull out the battery from the device. Then press a button.
  3. Plug the Xbox One controller into a USB 2. 0 port and pair it with the console.

After completing these steps, you can put on the headset and enter the Oculus software.

You can now install most apps from the Oculus store, but there are some things you need to know before doing so.

If you set the Oculus Rift to allow apps from unknown sources, you can use it with SteamVR just like the HTC Vive does.

With the release of Oculus Touch, you can now play any SteamVR game that supports controller input using the Rift headset.

These controllers work perfectly with the Rift and they’re registered as an HTC Vive controller when you set them up through Steam.

External Sensor

Thanks to the second sensor needed for the Oculus Touch motion controllers, the Rift now supports room-scale VR similar to the Vive, which means that you can move freely within a larger space (up to 10×10 feet).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is the Oculus Rift quest worth it?

With its 128 GB capacity, the Quest can hold up to 30 – 40 games, making it more than enough for most gamers.

Unless you plan on playing 60 – 80 games at once, the more expensive around $500 Oculus Quest 2 isn’t worth it. The cheaper version would be just fine.

Is Oculus Rift worth it in 2022?

Nope. There are no pros and only cons. Controller manufacturers are well-known for their brittleness and because they aren’t being manufactured any longer, you must purchase them on eBay.

Likewise, the tether cord is proprietary and no longer being manufactured, so they cost around $150 on eBay if you want one.

Is Oculus Rift better than Oculus quest?

Both the Oculus Quest and the Oculus Rift S offer OLED displays, which means they both offer deep blacks and high contrast. However, the OLED panels of the Oculus Quest offer a faster refresh than the LCD panels of the Oculus Rift S.

Conclusion

If you want to try VR, the Oculus Rift is still the best choice. It’s got the most content, the best comfort, and the best tracking.

It’s also the cheapest way to get started if you don’t already have a gaming PC. If you do have a gaming PC, there are other headsets that offer more advanced features.
