The Game Freak reinvented the fascinating video game series of Pokémon after 25 years. Game Freak and Nintendo with Pokémon Company aid in publishing it under the Pokémon media franchise.

Pokémon is the all-time favorite game of Generation Z due to its fabulous art style, nostalgia, and no fierce fighting.

Game Freak has successfully produced different versions of Pokémon, let’s have a look at some of the best editions.

Quick Summary

In this article, we will witness:

  • The Pokémon games you should play.
  • The worst Pokémon games.
  • Future of The Pokémon games on VR.
  • And some interesting information.

So, without further ado, let’s get into it.

What Pokémon Game Should I Play?

Since the year Pokémon was invented, Pokémon Company has launched many editions. some of which are interesting and engaging while some are not good.

Here we will share the list of those which you should play:

Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal (Generation 2)

Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal come up with some unique features. The starter Pokémon are Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. In addition, 100 Pokémon are infused into the already existing 150 Pokémon.

The Gold and Silver starter versions need some tricks and tactics to catch more Pokémon. In this version, they added a Kanto area on the map that connects Johto with the landmass for

unlimited fun.

The Johto region is considered a favorite part of most players due to the inhabitation of Lugia and Ho-Oh legendary birds.

Sixteen gym leaders add more spice and make it the most interesting, engaging, and lengthy Pokémon game ever created.

Let’s not miss the Gold and Silver edition’s remake, HeartGold and SoulSilver. They specifically work on DS and some other sections.

Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow (Generation 1)

Generation one of Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow offers some great starter Pokémon. Pikachu is the starter Pokémon of the Yellow class, the loveliest and most favorite. Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur Pokémon are granted their Red and Blue versions.

Original 151 and Ash’s first adventure are some unforgettable events for generation one. The mechanics are used very precisely.

Pallet Town is the area where you choose your first starter Pokémon. Then racking up gym badges, defeating the evilest characters of Team Rocket, and beating the Elite Four gave you a nostalgic vibe.

It’s magical that generation one holds a very special place in our hearts because our favorite Pikachu is on our side, and our mission is to get them all.

Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (Generation 3)

The Pokémon of generation three offer you some amazing starter Pokémon Reecko, Torchic, and Mudkip.

This reinvention of Pokémon is more vibrant because of their inclination towards nature, EV, and IV systems. Adding more specific species to your team and 386 Pokémon models is even more fascinating.

Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire did some remarkable changes by inserting enthralling regions on the map. Hoenn island is much bigger than the previous edition. Plus, they put more places to delve into.

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are the remakes of generation three, which are also available on Nintendo 3DS.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

The Arceus version of Pokémon grants you some special starter Pokémon named Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott.

Pokémon Legends brings you back to the old unseen world of Pokémon with new features and high-resolution display. It is a wild version that reboots the freshness by adding more wilderness aspects.

The Game Freak took some bold steps by adding more remarkable changes. Like the running after the little pocket monsters, remove Gyms, random battles, and the Elite Four. Replace them with pseudo-world Sinnoh’s distant past and integrate real-time motions.

Nintendo Switch incorporates some technical limitations, but the Pokémon battling is fabulous.

The Worst Pokémon Game

Where Pokémon generation 1, gen 2, gen three, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus are making a good entry into the universe, at the same point, there are some versions of Pokémon Games that you should never play.

Let’s have a look at a couple of the worst Pokémon games.

Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu!

Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu is the remake of the original Pokémon. Unfortunately, it failed to maintain that real spirit.

Although they made some noticeable changes, Joy-Cons or PokeBall Plus always results in a gimmicky motion. Similarly, they enhance the difficulty level of the game as compared to the original one.

We cannot declare it the worst game, but certain workable areas could be done in a better way.

Pokémon Sun and Moon/Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

Not all changes are progressive. Pokémon Sun and Moon is an example of the same thing.

Although, they added many new features like incorporating a new location Alola inspired by Hawaii. Alola is the area where Pokémon got power for the battle, which is a unique concept compared to outdated gym battles feature.

Aimlessly dragging the sun and moon story for climax jerks the whole game.

After this failure, they tried to fix it in the remake versions of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. But even that could not resolve those blunders.

Such kinds of versions cause the downfall of Pokémon games.

Here are some interesting statistics about Pokémon. One hundred thirty-three million people were playing this game in 2018. Even after such a pathetic downfall, the lowest activity was 65 million users and 71 million users in 2016 and 2021, respectively.

Future of Pokémon in Virtual Reality

For the last 25 years, Pokémon has been getting better and better with every passing day. Many changes are made, some of which are unique, and some are not.

A couple of years ago, a fan of Pokémon produced a video about “The future of Pokémon games in virtual reality.” This video was the interpretation of how our favorite Pikachu will look in VR, specifically Oculus Quest.

This technology is not currently in the market, but developers are working hard to produce such content for VR gaming. So, we can expect that Pokémon, with some notable changes, will be among competitors soon.

Wrapping Things Up…

So, bringing our topic to a conclusion, there are many Pokémon series that you should play. As mentioned above, there is a significant number of Pokémon games, many of which are worth playing except a few.

Besides these excellent editions, they also produce some versions, which waste your time. So, do avoid them.

Game Freak developers are doing their best to remake and reinvent every edition with even more unique features. Pokémon is compatible with IOs and Android, and VR headsets will soon support this game.
