Meditation apps have been around for many years now on smartphones and computers.

However, with the advancement of VR technology, VR meditation apps have started emerging.

We’ll look at such a VR meditation app today known as Tripp VR. We’ll check out what it has to offer and also, look at some alternatives that are available in the market as well.

Tripp VR

Tripp VR is a beautiful meditative experience that you can tailor according to your needs. Some modes are designed to make you calm and relaxed while others are designed to help you focus. It has a ton of variety so you can always find whatever you need on a particular day.

Alternate #1

Guided Meditation VR

If you’ve ever tried meditation but have had trouble doing it properly, this app is definitely worth considering. It boasts customizable settings in terms of time, music and environment. This ensures you get exactly the experience that you want.

Alternate #2

Where Thoughts Go

While this isn’t a meditation app, it certainly can be profound in the same way. You can hear voice recordings left by others and you can also leave your own. The prompts for these recordings often reveal something personal about the person that one can often relate to.

Quick Summary of the Main Product

Tripp VR is much more than just a meditation app. It’s a well-polished experience that aims to bring your mind at ease with itself. After a productive but tiring day, there’s nothing more satisfying than getting lost in the different worlds offered by this app.

Honestly, it’s the closest you can get to a psychedelic drug trip without actually being on drugs. Not only does it have a vast amount of variety for different moods, but it also has trackable mindfulness journeys.

This feature helps you keep track of your moods and focus on your mental health in a way that you never could before.

Tripp VR is largely separated into different types of sessions: FOCUS and CALM.

As their names state, the former is designed to help your mind focus and clear out all the brain fog that may have accumulated after a stressful day.

The latter is designed to help bring your mind as well as your body to a state of relaxation. We live in a world of sensory overload and these sessions are cleverly designed to help you let go and just be okay with being by yourself.

Features and Benefits

Vast Library of Meditative Experiences

With the Tripp app, you get access to many different types of meditative experiences that range from basic to intensely introspective. Naturally, you can choose between what type of experience you’d like to have on that particular day depending on your mood.

The app also provides suggestions based on your past choices and what it thinks would be best for you at a particular time.

You may be wondering, however, what exactly are these “meditative experiences” like?

Well, as the name may suggest, you get invited into a world of trippy visuals and psychedelic images. These are coupled with soothing ambient music that is not invasive but just enough to poke at the corners of your mind and stimulate it.

The psychedelic realms you are thrust into are dubbed “worldscapes” by the Tripp team. They are incredibly hypnotic and encourage you to let yourself go and get lost in them.

When you finally do let go, it feels like you’re letting go of all your concerns and worries as you melt into these beautiful, hypnotic landscapes.

Tripp Composer

The Tripp Composer is another feature that we have not seen a lot of in other meditation apps.

Well, most other meditation apps provide you with customizable settings that you can tinker with in order to create somewhat unique experiences.

However, the level of freedom and creativity that the Tripp Composer offers is definitely unparalleled. It allows you to create your own worldscapes with ease and also add your own music to them.

If you’d like to add narration or something to guide the user on their journey through the worldscape, that can be done as well.

These custom worldscapes are something that you can also share with other Tripp users. You can also check out custom worldscapes created by other users to have a unique Tripp experience.

Mobile Companion App

The mobile companion app for Tripp is brilliant since it’s not just a novelty feature. Instead, it integrates itself with the app in a beautiful way to create a more dynamic experience for you.

The app regularly prompts you to log your current state of mind and based on these inputs, it creates a trackable journey of your mental health.

You can choose between 10 different states of mind that include:

  • Distracted
  • Inspired
  • Content
  • Tense
  • Focused
  • Calm
  • Relieved
  • Bored
  • Worried
  • Upset

As you log them into the app day by day, this information gets fed into Tripp VR so that it can modify your meditative experiences accordingly.

Tracking Feature

As we mentioned above, the mobile companion app asks you for prompts so that you regularly log your state of mind on different days.

Then, based on those inputs, the tracking feature in the VR app tracks your mood changes over time. It determines whether the type of meditative experiences you’ve been choosing are having a positive effect on your mental health or not.

If yes, then more of the same types of meditative experiences are recommended to you. If not, then the nature of the meditative experiences is changed and you may be recommended totally different types of worldscapes.

These types of dynamic changes are something that we feel makes Tripp worth your time.

Daily FOCUS and CALM Sessions

As mentioned earlier, the main two types of worldscapes that you will find inside Tripp VR are FOCUS sessions and CALM sessions.

It can be difficult to choose between different sessions when you come home after a long day of work. This is especially true if your mind is scattered and you feel distracted or disoriented.

In this case, the Tripp VR makes your decision for you. Again, this decision is based on the state-of-mind inputs that you’ve put into the mobile app.

Based on this, you are recommended different types of FOCUS or CALM sessions. Naturally, depending on what Tripp VR thinks your mental state needs, you’ll be presented with either mostly FOCUS sessions or CALM sessions or a mixture of both.

Factors to Consider Before you Decide to Buy Tripp VR

Price

Tripp offers a few different ways to pay for the app.

Firstly, you can have a monthly subscription service which isn’t too expensive. It can get even cheaper if you opt for the yearly subscription service.

On the other hand, if you’re someone that does not like the subscription service model, then you can also perform a one-time purchase. This gives you lifetime access to the Tripp VR app so you can use it with ease whenever you like.

User-Friendliness

Both the VR app as well as the mobile companion app are well-designed and provide an extremely pleasant user experience.

They’re not clunky or difficult to understand. Furthermore, they are very beautifully designed to invoke a sense of calm even before you get into the actual worldscape.

Nausea and Motion Sickness

The worldscapes designed within Tripp VR are expertly crafted to ensure that users feel a sense of euphoria and bliss; Not a sense of queasiness or unease.

We definitely were apprehensive since trippy and psychedelic visuals are often something that can make people dizzy. However, the guided experiences within Tripp are so ingeniously designed that you feel little to no motion sickness; Even on your first try.

Buyer’s Guide

Meditation apps are all the rage these days and when coupled with VR technology, they can really turn into something special.

That being said, there are certain meditation apps that take advantage of virtual reality technology in a much better way than others.

That’s why you have to be wary when you choose a certain one. It’s important to take your needs into account and inspect certain factors of the apps you intend to buy.

These factors are:

Price

Just like with any product that you intend to buy as a consumer, it’s important that you take your budget into account and opt for an app that is within it.

When you consider the price of a meditation app, you have to look at what the app offers you in exchange for that price.

For example, some apps may have a ton of content and features to offer. Due to this, they might be slightly more expensive. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re overpriced since their level of content justifies the higher price point.

The apps that you need to steer clear of are the ones that are unpolished don’t have a ton of content to offer but are still extremely expensive.

Obviously, even if an app’s high price is justified, you may still not be able to go for it if your budget doesn’t allow it. In this case, you can scour the market to find an app that fits your price range and also offers a decent amount of content to keep you occupied.

User-Friendliness

The whole point of a VR meditation app is to calm you down and make you relax. That’ll be very hard to achieve if the app itself is not user-friendly.

An unpolished user experience can be extremely frustrating and take you out of the mindset you need to relax.

Not to mention that unpolished and clunky UIs are ten times worse when you’re inside virtual reality compared to regular apps. The frustration is just ten times worse.

Hence, when you look at apps that can help you meditate or relax, make sure to check out user reviews. They can help you get an idea of whether or not the user experience itself is well-polished or not.

Nausea and Motion Sickness

Similar to how a clunky UI can frustrate you, you also don’t want unpolished visuals or movement.

This is because they can cause you to become nauseous or motion-sick. Naturally, if the aim of an app is to relax you, it shouldn’t be causing you nausea.

Hence, you have to steer clear of apps rumored to be unpolished in how the visuals are displayed within your VR headset’s screen.

Nothing can be worse than when you want to relax and the app that’s meant to relax you, makes you nauseous instead.

It’s also important to note that many apps might be fine for some individuals but for others, it may make them motion-sick. This is, unfortunately, something you can’t get an idea of until you actually try the app itself.

Luckily, many VR apps that are available on the market right now offer free playable demos. A free demo is just a small portion of the app that you can experience for free. It gives you an idea of what the app is like and what it has to offer.

Trying out free demos can be a great way to get an idea of whether or not a certain meditation app will work well for you or not.

It’s also a great way to figure out whether or not the user experience is up to par or not; Something that we discussed is important in the last section.

Calmness Factor

Last but not least, of course, a meditation app has to do a good job of making you relax and calm.

Some apps do a wonderful job of this since they are designed by experts that are in touch with meditative techniques. On the other side of the spectrum, you also have lazy developers trying to earn a quick buck by hastily developing an unpolished meditation app.

Naturally, you have to avoid the latter ones and thankfully, they do get weeded out by the community through negative user reviews.

A meditation app that is made by a team that doesn’t know what they’re doing can be very damaging for your current mood as well as your overall mental health. Hence, it’s something that you should always take seriously.

Make sure that you conduct thorough research and opt for a virtual reality meditation app that is well-made and high-quality.

Wrapping Things Up

That’s it for our Tripp VR review.

Do we recommend it? We definitely do! It’s something that everyone should experience at least once. It’s a great way to unwind for some and a life-changing way of achieving mental stability for others.

We’re not saying this is a solution to your mental health problems but it certainly can be a soothing experience in this tough world.
