The January 2023 firmware update for the Surface Pro 8 addresses security vulnerabilities and improves system stability and performance. The update includes no new features or changes apart from security fixes and performance improvements.

End-of-Support for Surface Pro 8

As previously announced, the Surface Pro 8 will reach its end-of-support next year. However, Microsoft will continue to provide firmware updates until then to ensure users have the best experience possible before the device is phased out.

Before Installing The Update

Microsoft Surface Pro 8 users have begun receiving the January 2023 firmware update. The update addresses security vulnerabilities and improves system stability and performance. However, before installing the update, users should be aware of the following:

Firmware Updates Cannot be Uninstalled or Reverted

It’s important to note that firmware updates cannot be uninstalled or reverted to an earlier version. Once the update is installed, all previous updates will also be installed if they were not already on the device. Only updates that apply to the Surface Pro 8 will be downloaded and installed.

Restarting the Device is Required

After the updates are installed, users must restart their device to complete the installation process. To restart the device, select the Start button and then select Power > Restart.

Availability of the Update

The latest firmware is rolling out to devices running Windows 10 October 2020 Update, Version 20H2, or greater.

Additionally, the update will be released in a phased manner, meaning not all Surface Pro 8 devices will receive the update on the same date. It may take a week or so for the update to become available to all users.
