The Microsoft Surface Pro 9 is the newest addition to an illustrious line of groundbreaking devices.

Though Microsoft was initially underestimated when it came to hardware, through its refined and improved 2-in-1 detachable design the company has now transformed into a remarkable design icon.

This process has been happening for nearly 10 years, therefore it will likely not astonish you to learn that the 2022 release is another minor improvement. Microsoft has instead focused on improving the inner functions.

Microsoft Surface Pro 9

Pros

  • Sleek and lightweight
  • Incredible construction
  • Quicker than the Surface Pro 8.

Cons

  • Battery life is nothing special.
  • The screen could be more vivid and vibrant.
  • No 3.5mm audio jack

CPU

As one might anticipate, this year brings an upgrade to the CPU. But this is no ordinary internal renovation.

Chip

The Surface Pro 9 range now includes a version powered by the ARM-based Microsoft SQ3 chip, in addition to 12th Gen U-series Intel Core i5 and Core i7 chips.

This indicates that using smartphone-like chips (mainly the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3) to power laptops is an accepted practice that is expected to become more widespread.

Microsoft Website

Microsoft has effectively merged the Surface Pro X into the regular Surface Pro family. If you select the Surface Pro 9 from the list of options on Microsoft’s website, you’ll find that the SQ3 is presented like a standard option, with no difference between models.

Screen Size

This makes sense because the Surface Pro 8 last year copied features from the Pro X like its size, screen, and keyboard cover.

This creates a situation where people may purchase a non-Intel Surface Pro 9 without being aware of the consequences.

Design

While the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 may not be the most budget-friendly 2-in-1 out there or the swiftest and most advanced of its kind, its design is undoubtedly top-notch.

Size and Weight

The main tablet’s design is stylishly slim (9.3mm), lightweight (879g), and stylishly built, featuring a 13in 3:2 aspect-ratio display with black borders and a slightly rounded, beveled aluminum frame.

Rear Panel

The back of the device is covered in silky matte aluminum, with a polished Windows logo at the bottom and a camera lens at the top as its only embellishments.

Bottom Portion

As with other Surface Pro tablets, the lower half of the device can be folded out and used as a kickstand for your display. This lets you adjust the angle to whatever is comfortable for you, including pushing it almost flat against the desk for more convenient sketching and note-taking.

Display

As previously noted, the Surface Pro 9 is a subtle upgrade from the previous model and, unsurprisingly, there are no changes to the display.

The panel on this model is the same as last year’s; the parameters include a 13in size,120Hz refresh rate, 3:2 aspect ratio, 2,880 x 1,920 resolution, 267ppi pixel density, and accuracy of color performance.

Technically speaking, it’s a great screen as well, even though the IPS panel in this iPad can’t quite compare to the Mini-LED panel in the 12.9in iPad Pro or OLED panels found in Samsung’s Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 laptops.

Color Profiles

There are two factory-calibrated color profiles to choose from – sRGB and Vivid.

Webcam

Webcam quality is excellent. It’s rarely prioritized by manufacturers, and even Apple didn’t give it much thought until recently. The 1080p camera on the Surface Pro 9 captures clear images with proper lighting, and almost no noise.

Microphones

The Surface Pro 9 comes equipped with two far-field microphones that can easily pick up your voice, as well as a pair of 2W stereo speakers that get surprisingly

Generation

This year’s Surface Pro gets an upgrade to 12th Gen Intel silicon – either a Core i5 or a Core i7 – or the Microsoft SQ3 chip, depending on the model you choose.

Verdict

Taking into consideration all aspects of the Surface Pro 9, it’s not the best but certainly carries out its designed tasks well. It might not be on par with the competition, however.

Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Pro 360, the Apple M2 iPad Pro is faster and it has a better display, camera, and speakers. Apple’s 2-in-1 is considered the industry benchmark for such devices, as it improves year after year. However, this device also costs more than its Samsung counterpart.

Despite this, not everyone is comfortable using iPadOS instead of traditional desktop OS and many people prefer the flexibility and convenience that comes with detachable 2-in-1 devices.

For people looking for an upgrade, the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 is a great choice. It’s sleek and lightweight design make it pleasant to use, plus it works well in almost all tasks. Plus, its better than its predecessor, the Surface Pro 8.
