Microsoft is aiming to provide gamers with a personalized, immersive experience as they play.

Microsoft Submitted a Patent Application

Microsoft has submitted a patent application describing a system that would show gamers personalized ads while they play.

We’re so excited that we have something really cool for you. Check out our blog post!

Personalized Content

Gamesual first discovered the patent called “Providing personalized content for the unintrusive online gaming experience,” which mentions a system that displays ads tailored to individual players when they play cloud-connected or internet-based games.

Personalized Ads

The drawings in the patent application illustrate how personalized ads could be featured on billboards in a driving game, the hoarding behind a goal in soccer games, and branded clothing in sports games.

The advertising would be delivered instantly to spots that could always be seen, given the type of player based on the account being used to enter the game.

Unintrusive

The patent was stated to be an “unintrusive” system of advertisement, but it would likely require developers to determine the minimal locations for ads to be visible.

This could lead to environments impacted by ad placements, and it is likely ads will start appearing on objects players interact with more often.

The Xbox Series S by Microsoft is a gaming console that requires an internet connection for playing games.

Game Pass Ultimate requires an internet connection and games can be played from the cloud across multiple devices. Essentially, all the elements that a personalized ads system needs in order to work are already available–Microsoft merely needs to activate it to begin making money from ads as we play.
