The future where smart-home gadgets seamlessly integrate into our homes has just gotten a bit closer.

Matter Enabled

Google announced that Nest devices are Matter enabled, meaning they can be used to set up and manage other Matter devices. These mostly don’t exist yet though.

Take a look at the latest news about the technology world and how it’s progressing.

You can use an Android phone running version 8.1 or later and have Google Play Services 22.48.14 (or newer) to pair a Matter-supported controller with other Matter devices and controllers.

As we move into the post-Matter era, that means you can get a few Eve devices that just received their Matter firmware update in three (or four) business days (s).

Or you can wait for a few Nanoleaf lights, some Level smart locks, or whatever else is coming.

Devices that have quietly received their newest firmware updates can now be controlled by Nest devices.

Connect an Eve Smartwatch to Your Matter Network

You could theoretically connect an Eve smartwatch to your Matter Network using an Android smartphone, then connect that smartphone to an Apple HomeKit hub, a Samsung SmartThings Hub, or an Amazon Echo Dot.

You could control them using any device connected to your Wi‑Fi router, including a Google Nest Hub or another Nest device.

Pair Your Matter Smart Speaker With Your Phone

Google also announced that they’ve made it easier to pair your Matter smart speaker with your phone. When your Matter smart speaker is nearby, a pop-up prompt will appear asking if you’d like to connect to your phone.

If you tap yes, then you’ll be prompted to choose which app you want to use to connect to your phone, including Google Assistant. You can also say “Hey Google” to get started.

Matter Badge

You should check whether the device has a Matter badge to see if it works with Google Assistant, but also check whether it has a Works with Google Home badge to see if it supports Google Home.

If you’ve got one of these devices, they should now be functioning as Thread border routers, which means they’ll expand Thread’s reach into your house, even if you aren’t using Google Assistant to control them.

Our experts’ test and review all the latest technology, so make sure to check that out.

The Nest Wifi, Nest thermostat, and Nest camera should be Matter enabled and functioning as Matter hubs now. They’re scheduled for an update in 2023.
