With one of the biggest cancellations in Super Smash Bros.’s recent past sitting on the shoulders of Main Stage, the Melee looked just the same as it always had—with Mang0 defeating ibrDw3 3-2 after an amazing weekend of bird-only games.

At the end of the year, we’re going to see some big matches between top pros from both games.

Mang0’s Addition to the Tournament

Mang0 was added to the tournament at the last minute after subgoaling his attendance with his Twitch stream. He had only practiced for three days before the event and was carried by the knowledge that he would be playing against only Fox players.

“Honestly, I got super excited when I realized I only had to play Falcon and I literally only practiced against Fox,” Mang0 said. “I was the HBox, I only practiced one match up all weekend.” He definitely gets carried away. That helps him a lot.

He went through the Fox gantlet, beating SFOP, Moky, Leffen, two on iBDW, and finally Armada to win his tournament run.

Tournament for Melee Players

The main standout was iBDW, who had an impressive showing at the event despite not having played competitively since May 2019. He made waves by winning the Smash Summit Showdown, which he won after beating both Panda and Nintendo.

While playing in the top eight, he wore a blank white T‑Shirts that read “Free Agent’ on the front, declaring his DM’s were open for the right sponsorship if anyone wanted to talk about sponsorships.

Ludwig’s Scruffed World Tour

For the rest of the year, Ludwig’s Scuffed World Tour will be running in December in order to cover the canceled Panda Cup Finale. It will include some of the top teams from the SWT scoreboard, including Mang0, who has now declared he won’t play unless Zain attends.

Regardless of whether he and Zain attend Ludwig’s tournament, Mang0 is confident that the scene will continue to grow no matter where it ends up being played.

“Remember one thing. You can attempt to remove our Melee,” Mang0 stated. “You can get my controller, my GameCube, my CRT. In case Melee survives I’ll play.”

If somehow the big stages are taken away, Mang0 will say he will play in a sweaty basement with just 20 people, himself facing Zain behind a convenience store for $25. “That’s what it’s always been.”
