Laowa has just announced a new ultra-wide-angle zoom for its Fujifilm GFX medium format camera line: the Laowa 19 mm f/2.8 ZERO-D GFX.

With its compact and lightweight design, this manual lens provides a 110° angle of view with zero distortion, making it perfect for landscape and architectural photographers. So lets take a closer look at this one!

With regard to ultra-wide angle lenses for GFX medium formats, there are very few choices from Fujifilm. Indeed, the widest option currently available is the FUJINON GF20-35mm f/4 R WR Zoom Lens, which costs no less than $2 500.

If you’re looking for wider GFX lens options, Laowa has already launched two Shift lens models: the 15mm F4.5 R0D Shift and the 20 mm F4 0D Shift.

If you don’t want the shift features, the company has recently released a new, cheaper, and faster version of its lens: the 19mm f/2.8 zero-d gfx.

Features

It’s an 80-millimeter (19-millimeters) wide-angle lens that’s completely made out of metal. Like most Laowa lenses, this one is fully manual.

With its 19mm focal length, this FUJIFILM GFX medium format camera will provide you with an angle of 110 degrees of field of vision. As part of the Zero-d series, you’ll be able to shoot without any optical distortions.

This means that when shooting architecture, for example, all straight edges will stay straight, and you won’t end up with a “fish eye” look.
