Even though the Royal Family of Zelda makes mistakes and causes their people to suffer, only Ganon attempts to take control.

The Legend of Zelda generally takes place in the kingdom of Hyrule, which has been ruled by the Hyrule Royal Family for many years, with Princess Zelda as its most well-known member.

Despite instances in the history of Hyrule that could leave people scratching their heads over why the royal family maintains power, even when they make costly mistakes, the Hyrule Royal Family has managed to stay on top.

Other than Princess Zelda, members of the Hyrule Royal Family don’t show up frequently in the Zelda games.

In several cases, this is due to the fact that at the time the game takes place, Zelda and her father, the King, appear to be the only surviving family members.

Princess Zelda, or Tetra in Wind Waker, assists Link as much as possible; however, there have been times when the royals of Hyrule have not done enough to help their people.

Prior to the Events of Breath of the Wild, Hyrule’s Royal Family Reversed Its Progress.

Long before the occurrences of Breath of the Wild, the Sheikah were a technologically advanced civilization; however, the Hyrule Royal Family refused to accept their advancements.

Due to their exile, not many people in present-day are aware of how the technology left behind by the Sheikah operates.

The disappearance of Sheikah technology put the people of Hyrule in a state akin to the medieval peasantry. Had these advancements been made, they could have potentially aided against Calamity Ganon, despite his influence over the Guardians during the Second Great Calamity.

Exploring the Power of the Hyrule Royal Family in Zelda

The royal woman passed down from Zelda’s mother in Breath of the Wild, possesses the exclusive power to lock Calamity Ganon away when he resurfaces.

Since they must depend on the queen or princess in times of crisis like when Calamity Ganon returns, it is hard for the subjects of the royal family to disobey their stances of authority.

Not only that, the Hyrule Royal Family is said to have a divine right to rule in Skyward Sword due to Zelda being the mortal incarnation of the Goddess Hylia. Therefore, it is impossible to contest their rule.

Despite the Hyrule Royal Family’s long reign of power over Hyrule, they have made mistakes throughout their rule that have cost their subjects dearly.

Though the title of queen should be inherited by Princess Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom, a lot needs to be fixed due to the destruction of Calamity Ganon, so she will likely carry on with the repair work that began while she was trapped.

But, she had the option to pass along the royal title of Hyrule to someone else and end the Royal Family’s rule in The Legend of Zelda.
