Are you having a hard time using Trinus VR with Gear VR?

Let us help you out.

How to Use Trinus VR with Gear VR?

You can download the Trinus VR app for Android devices from Google Play. It lets you select between Gear VR and Cardboard modes when inserting your phone into the headset.

It also lets you enable the low persistence mode for Gear VR, which is not available in Cardboard mode.

How to Play PC Games on Google Cardboard with Trinus VR

Google Cardboard is an interesting way to play video games, but if you’re looking for high-end graphics-intensive games, you won’t be satisfied by them.

The budget-friendly virtual reality headset is no competition for the likes of Oculus Rift, which has some really advanced games. Trinity VR, formerly called “Trinity Gyre,” is an app that takes Cardboard gaming to the highest level.

Trinus VR allows you to play PC games using your Google Cardboard headset. It uses the hardware and sensors in your phone to create a virtual reality environment for you to enjoy.

Things You Need

Before you start using Trinus VR, here’s some stuff you’ll need:

  • A Windows PC
  • An Android smartphone that’s compatible with Google Cardboard
  • Download the Trinus VR Android App

The Trinus VR game is available for free as well as a paid (full) edition. The free edition allows up to 10 minutes of playtime per session, so if gaming is something you’re interested in doing a lot, you should definitely go for the full edition.

  • Download the Trinus VR Server App for Windows PC.
  • Google Cardboard Viewer

Set up

Trinus VR essentially duplicates your Windows desktop onto an Android phone screen in split-screen mode. It also creates a fake 3D effect for any game that doesn’t already include 3D support.

You first need to connect your Windows PC to your Android phone so that you can play PC games on your phone using VR mode.

There are two ways for you to connect with Trinus VR.

Via USB Cable

Connecting your phone or computer to Trinus VR using a wired cable is the simplest and most convenient way to start using Trinus VR.

  • Plug your smartphone into your computer using a USB cable.
  • Next, go to Settings->”More”->”Tethering &”Mobile Hotspot”->”USB tethering”.
  • After doing so, open the Trinus server app on your Windows PC, and the Trinus VR app on an Android phone.
  • Connect the two devices using the app and you should be able to view your Windows desktop in virtual reality (VR) mode.

A wired connection may not seem very intuitive at first, but it works best. It provides the highest quality video and the mirror is also perfectly clear.

If you’re using Windows 10 Mobile, remember to disable Wi‑Fi and cellular network connections when connecting your device via a USB cable. Make sure that your smartphone driver is installed on your computer so that Windows detects the USB connection.

Over WiFi

If your phone and computer are both on the same wireless network or if your computer is plugged into the router using an Ethernet cord, then you can use the Trinus app to create a wireless connection between them.

You can use it even if the phone is not directly attached to the hotspot created using the Trinus PC app, but it may be slower than if the phone was directly attached.

We tried several different wireless connections, but none of them were good enough to use. So we would definitely recommend using a wired internet cable instead.

How to Use Trinus VR

  1. Once your phone and computer are online, the Trinus VR application on your Android device will display an exact mirror of your desktop screen.
  2. If you’re running the game you’d like to play with Google Cardboard on your Windows PC, be sure to set the game up so that it runs in windowed mode instead of full screen.
  3. You should also make sure to play the mobile version of the game in low graphics settings and at a 4:3 or 8:7 ratio for the best experience on your phone and Google Cardboard.

You may need to use software like Dxwnd if the PC games you want to play don’t automatically start up in full-screen mode.

  1. After starting the game, put the phone inside the Google Cardboard headset and attach it to your face.

You can control the game by moving your head around, using your mouse as the controller, and connecting a Bluetooth controller if you want a better gaming experience.

Settings

If you think you’re not getting the best experience from the app, you can change some of its features.

You can adjust settings for calibration, fake 3D, position tracking, sensitivity, lens distortion, etc. The application also allows you to select from different Google Cardboard models and other VR devices like GearVR.

Problems You Might Face

The Trinus VR application is still in its early stages, so expect inconsistent performances and bugs. Here are a few things you may encounter:

Wireless Connection Not Working

We’ve already mentioned that the wireless connectivity over WiFi didn’t function properly for us, but we’re hoping that the developers who worked on Trinus VR will come up with a solution for this problem.

Games Not Running in VR Mode

To get real stereoscopic 3D or virtual reality (VR) support, the game needs to render using its own graphics engine.

If the game doesn’t support it, TrinusVR forces two images onto each eye using their fake 3D technology which results in lower performance.

If Trinus VR doesn’t work well enough for you, there are also third-parties apps like Vireio or Tridef that can help you get better results.

Content Not Displayed Properly

Each Google Cardboard version has its own unique combination of lens properties, so if Trinus VR doesn’t detect them correctly, then some content may not show up properly.

You can use preset modes for different devices like VR One, FreeFly, Dive, etc., but you may have to manually adjust the settings to get them right.

You can adjust various settings in the advanced menu and whatever changes you make are reflected immediately on your smartphone.

Head Tracking Issues

Head tracking issues are usually caused by hardware limitations. You can try checking out different sensor modes in Trinus VR’s settings and if you’re experiencing jittery movement, you can try using the Sensor Jitter Filter feature.

Make sure that your phone’s sensors are calibrated and that there aren’t any magnetic interferences nearby.

If you’re having trouble with anything else, be sure to play around with different settings and other features offered by the app.

Conclusion

Trinus VR is a great tool to enjoy PC games on your smartphone in VR mode using Google Cardboard. It works fine with most games and provides a good enough performance.

However, if you are looking for something better than what Trinus VR offers, you might want to consider buying a dedicated VR headset instead.
