VR has taken the technology industry by storm, and for good reasons.

It’s not just useful for things like education; it’s also a great tool for providing an immersive gaming experience. And arguably, there’s no greater gaming platform than PlayStation.

If you’ve got the PSVR headset, you’ll want to set it up first before you can really start playing any of the available titles.

Let’s find out how you can do this.

How to Turn On PS4 Controller?

Fortunately, PlayStation VR is one of the easiest of the best virtual reality (VR) systems to set up, because it was designed specifically for use with the PlayStation 4 or PS4 Pro.

So you don’t have to worry too much about the specs – but we’ll talk about the differences between using PSVR with a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro a little later.

The best PlayStation VR titles are just a click away.

We suggest setting aside at least 30 min to set up the PSVR headset.

PlayStation VR Requirements

Unlike the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, you don’t need a computer setup with very specific components for the PlayStation VR to run. Why? Because it works with your PlayStation 4 or PS4 Pro, if you already own one of these consoles, then you should be able to get started right away.

There are really only two requirements for using PlayStation VR: have an appropriate PSVR headset, and have either a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro.

How to Set up PlayStation VR?

Both versions of the PS VR headsets include motion controllers, so we’ll start by covering the newer version first.

You can tell which model you have by looking for the product codes on the packaging. CUH-ZVR 2 is the new model, while CUH ZVR 1 is the original model.

Setting up the Playstation 4 VR Headset

  1. Plug the HDMI cable from the PlayStation VR into your television.
  2. Plug the PlayStation Camera into your PS4. It should be placed at least four and a half to five feet from the ground.
  3. Plug an HDMI cable into your PlayStation 4, then plug another one into its HDMI port.
  4. Plug the USB cord into the back of the processor unit, then plug it into the front of your PlayStation 4.
  5. Plug the USB cable into a wall socket, then plug the USB cable into the back of the processor unit.
  6. Plug the PSVR headset’s USB cord into the front of the PlayStation 4 console. You should see two ports for connecting the device; however, the USB cord and the Processor Unit should match up.
  7. Plug your headphones into the bottom of the device.
  8. Turn on your TV, use the standard PlayStation controller, and play Call Of Duty.
  9. Press the power button at the bottom of the front side of the headset. When the headset successfully turns on, the LED lights on the rear of the headset will turn from red to blue.
  10. Follow the on-screen directions to set up the headset correctly for you and your space

Setting up the PlayStation 4 VR headset

  1. To get started, follow these five steps for the CUH-ZVR2 headset.
  2. Slide the connection covers off the Processor Units and plug them into the PS VR headset connection cables. There are two connection points, but there should be matching symbols on the cables and Processor Units to help you figure out where they go.
  3. Plug the PSVR headset into the connection cable.
  4. For the CUH-Z VR2 headset, follow steps 8 through 10.

Connecting the PlayStation 4 Move Controllers

You’ll connect the PlayStation Move Controllers, which you may wish to utilize with PSVR, the exact same way you’d any other PlayStation 4 controller. Here’s how to do that if you’ve forgotten.

  1. Plug the mini USB cable into the Move Controller, then plug the Move Controller into a USB slot on the front of your PlayStation 4.
  2. Press the PS button on the Xbox One controller to connect it to the system.

Now that you’ve got your PSVR headset, you can use it with any VR games you already own. If you don’t have any yet, however, you might consider buying some.

Other Things You Need to Know

There are some minor differences when connecting the PSVR to a PS4 compared to a PS4 Pro.

Fortunately, all PSVR games work with both systems, so if you’re concerned about compatibility, you don’t need to worry.

With the additional processing speed provided by the PS4 Pro, the graphics will look slightly better during regular gameplay.

Apart from that, everything else should be pretty straightforward. If you’ve got a PS4, you can just download PlayStation VR games directly from your console, then play them in virtual reality.

How to Fix a Controller that Won’t Turn On?

If you’ve got a PlayStation VR headset, but when you plug in your Move controllers, they don’t light up, you may be able to fix them by following these steps.

  1. Charge your controller for a long time before using it.
  2. Reset your controller
  3. Check the inner connections for any loose wires or damaged
  4. Order a new battery for your controller

Give Your Controller a Long Charge

If your controller has a dead battery, then it could be because the USB cable was not plugged into the right port, or because your PS4 isn’t in rest mode.

Plug the USB to Mini USB Cable into the PlayStation 4 and the Controllers, and let them charge for at least a couple of hours. If they start up after charging, then you know there was no problem with the controllers. If not, continue to the next step.

Reset your Controller

If your controller isn’t turning on after being fully recharging, check if there’s something wrong with it. Fortunately, Sony placed a tiny reset button on its rear side.

To access the button, just press and hold for a couple of seconds before releasing.

If your controller doesn’t start up after a reset, check its internal components for damage.

Check the Inner Connections

The Move controller has ribbon cables inside, which could be removed if they came loose during play. Here’s how to take them out.

  • You will need a Philips #0 screwdriver.
  • Remove the four screws from the back of the controllers.
  • Take off the back plate.
  • If the white ribbon is not soldered onto the light globe, then check whether there is any loose wire inside the light globe.
  • Make sure the battery connection is secure. If it isn’t, reconnect it.

If everything looks connected and where it should be but isn’t, you may have a dead battery.

Order a New Battery

If you’re having trouble turning on your controller, order a replacement battery from Amazon. They sell an excellent aftermarket option for the connection inside your Move.

Here’s how to remove the battery from your controller.

  1. Remove the four screws from the back of the controllers.
  2. Remove the back plate.
  3. Remove the battery from its cradle.
  4. Remove the batteries by unplugging them using a flat screwdriver.
  5. Plug the new battery in.
  6. Put the batteries back into their cradles.
  7. Replace the back cover.
  8. Tighten the four bolts.

Conclusion
