How to Use VR Glasses?

Things You Should Know

  • You can download apps from either the Google Play Store or the Apple iTunes Store. Open the desired application and put your smartphone into the headset.
  • Place the headset on your face. Then align the screen so that it’s centered.
  • Adjust the fit and position of the headphones. Use them to move the cursor.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Download Virtual Reality Apps

There are a number of VR apps available for both iOS and Android devices. Here are some tips for browsing and downloading them.

  • Open the Google Play Store on Android, or App Store on iPhone.
  • Search for VR.
  • Tap a VR app.
  • Click Get, or install next to the app.

Step 2: Open the VR Glasses Headset

There are two types of VR headsets: some open from the front, and others have a tray that slides from the side you’re using to mount your phone.

Step 3: Place Your Smartphone in the Holding Tray

Most VR headsets have mounts for holding your smartphone. To use them, turn your smartphone sideways and insert it into the mount.

You might want to take off your smartphone’s protective cover if you usually put your smartphone into a protective cover when using it in a VR headset.

Step 4: Open a VR app.

To use an Oculus Rift headset, tap the “Oculus” button on your phone’s home page. Then, if the VR application you want to play needs a game controller, connect it to your phone via Bluetooth before launching the application.

Step 5: Align the Screen in the Center

To use an app for virtual reality, align the center of the screen with the marker on the mounting plate, or the sight divider in the headset itself.

Step 6: Close the VR Headset

When the application starts up, close the VR headset front, or slide the VR tray back into the headset.

Step 7: Place the VR Headset on Your Head

Put the screen mount over your eyes and tighten the head strap until it feels secure. Then adjust the straps if necessary so that they’re holding the screen securely in place.

Step 8: Adjust the Spacing of the Lenses

Adjust the horizontal spacing of the headset’s two eyeshields if you’re able to do so. Otherwise, leave them in their default settings.

Some headsets have a dial that you can turn, others don’t. If yours doesn’t, then you just have to adjust the lenses once.

Step 9: Adjust the Focus

Most VR headsets have a way for you to change the focus. Some headset has a dial that you can turn, and some headset requires you to manually move the lens forward and backward, or adjust the distance between the smartphone and the lens. You only need to set this up once.

Step 10: Use Your Head Movements to Control the Cursor

You can click on the dot in the middle of the screen to access the VR content.

  • Move the mouse pointer by moving your head.
  • To activate an item, click on it and hold down the mouse until the item turns blue.
  • Apps for mobile devices are typically viewed only (no input) and don’t have a cursor. You must first launch an application before putting your device into a VR headset and then take your device out to interact with the application.
  • You may want to use an external gamepad if you’re playing some games that don’t support controllers. If so, you’ll first have to pair the gamepad with your phone via Bluetooth.

Check the manufacturer’s instructions for your controller for more details.

Conclusion

Virtual Reality (VR) has been around for quite a long time, but recently it has gained popularity due to its ability to offer a whole new dimension to our everyday life. We can explore places which we wouldn’t be able to visit otherwise.

You can also enjoy games that used to be impossible to play. So go ahead and give virtual realities a shot.
