Portal 2 is a first-person perspective puzzle game. The player takes the role of Chell in the single-player campaign, as one of two robots—Atlas and P-Body—in the cooperative campaign, or as a simplistic humanoid icon in community-developed puzzles.

But how do you play Portal 2 in VR? Let’s find out.

How to Play Portal 2 in VR?

There’s no easy solution to playing true sixth-off portal with just a mod for its base game. We’re going to use Gary’s mod to get this working. You’ll need to install Gmod and Portaal and ensure that you mount the game into Gmod too.

  1. Buy Portal 2 on steam.
  2. To install and mount the portal, we’ll need to get into the game files. We’ll then be able to add loads for each chamber.
  3. Next, you’ll need to download catsy’s VR mod from Steam.
    • Download the Catsy’s VR mod using these steps.
      • First up, subscribe to the Steam Workshop for the game.
      • You need to download a special plugin to make this whole thing happen. Click here for instructions.
      • Click here to download it and follow the on-page instructions.
      • Open Steam Library and look for GMod
      • Right-click on it
      • Go to SteamVR Desktop Settings and turn off “SteamVR Desktop Theater.”
      • Once this is done, turn off any launch option you have for Gmod, and turn off any other mods you’ve installed. This is just for safety purposes so that there aren’t issues when launching the game.
      • Before starting SteamVR, start up GMod first.
      • Once you’ve got Steam VR set up, go into a sandbox game.
      • Go into the command console and type “VR mod”. You should now put on a VR device (whether it be a PC VR device or a Quest).
      • If everything goes according to plan, you should see yourself walking around the room as well as your avatar’s body.
  4. If you’re installing the aperture science mod, you can either choose to use the portal with one or two versions. It seems to not really matter which one you pick.
  5. Now you can easily play Portal 2 in virtual reality.

Portal 2

Portal 2 is a puzzle video game developed and published by Valve. It was released on Apr 19, 2011, for PCs, PS3s, and XBoxes.

Portal 2 is a follow up to Portal and Valve’s first title to receive an E10+ rating, whereas all of their previous games received a T rating.

Synopsis

First mentioned in the Portal 2 ARG, it was revealed on March 5, 2010, to be coming out in Fall 2010, but was then announced on June 9, 2011, to be delayed until an unspecified date sometime in 2011, until it finally came out on February 9, 2011, which was then delayed yet again to April 19.

Portal 2 was previewed in the 12-page cover article of the April 2010 issue of Game Informer, showing off some plot details and new gameplay features. It was also revealed that GLaDOS was still alive and would be returning as the main villain.

Additionally, Game Informer and others reported that there would be a separate “multi-play” (two-player) game available after the main game. It was reported that this multi-play game would have its own separate credits and would take part after the single-play game.

On June 14, 2010, Valve was set to show off Portal 2 during its E3 press conference. However, they later canceled the showing of Portal 2 for the day. Instead, they showed a surprise video instead.

On June 15, the first official Portal 2 trailer was released, showing off some new gameplay footage. It was revealed that the game would be coming out for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, Mac OS X, Linux, iOS, Android, Ouya, and Windows Phone 8.

GamePlay

Portal 2 is a sequel to Portal, which was released in 2007. It features new game mechanics, including mobility gels, the aerial faith plate, and a thermal discouragement beam.

Chell doesn’t wear the Advanced Knee Replacement anymore, but she now has the new Aperture Science long fall boots. She meets up with enemies along the path, so combat is slightly different from the previous games.

It continues the story from Portal 2, where GLaDOS finds an unknown intruder in the Aperture Science Laboratories and introduces a new game type called “Race,” which allows players to compete against each other by placing the fewest number of portal gun turrets in the fastest period of play.
