You might have come across Minecraft VR, it’s Mojang’s best-selling video game that is now available on VR. With the new update, players can be fully immersed in the virtual world of Minecraft

This development allows you to have the whole Minecraft experience without purchasing expensive PCs. The game is available in several editions and is present on different platforms.

If you are already familiar with Minecraft, the VR version is your next adventure. You can play the game on your Oculus Quest 2 headset, which is perfectly compatible with Minecraft.

Quick Summary

In this article, we will discuss:

  • How to get started?
  • Is Minecraft VR free?
  • How to play different versions of Minecraft?

So without further ado, let’s get right into it.

How to Get Started?

Things to Do Before You Can Play Minecraft

First and foremost, you must have a headset to get started. Minecraft VR can be played using the Oculus Rift 2. Additionally, Minecraft supports the PlayStation VR as well. For this, you will need the Playstation VR headset and PS4 controllers.

There are 2 ways to start playing. You can either use an oculus link (you can also use other, cheaper wire links found on amazon) to connect your oculus rift 2 to a PC to start playing. Or, you can use the wireless option to play freely.

Connecting Your Oculus Quest 2 to Your PC

You can use either a wired or wireless connection when using your quest 2. Even though you need to stay near your computer for a wired connection, it provides better performance.

If you don’t have the Oculus desktop app on your PC, start with downloading that first. When that’s done, open the app and go to devices. There, you should click on add headset and select quest 2.

At this point, you will be given two options, either link (cable) or air link (wireless). Select the link (cable) for wired connections and connect your quest 2 headset to a USB 3 and continue.

Likewise, for wireless mode, select the air link. Then go to experimental features in settings and turn on Air Link. Finally, on the quick setting menu, pair your Air link to your PC and click confirm on the PC’s screen. Launch Oculus Quest 2 and let the adventure begin!

Is Minecraft VR Free?

If you already play Minecraft on any platform, Minecraft VR is available for you to enjoy for free. Likewise, if you have Minecraft on Windows 10, you can upgrade to Minecraft VR for free as well.

Additionally, you can play Minecraft on VR headsets you may already own too. Some of the best headsets for the game are the oculus rift (on which you can download the game for free from the Oculus store), Gear VR, and the Oculus Quest.

Getting the full version, however, does come with a price, but it’s affordable. Once you have upgraded to it, you can easily enjoy the full immersive experience in the virtual world of Minecraft.

VR Headsets That Work With Minecraft VR

There are a lot of Minecraft versions available. Depending on the devices you already own, you can see which ones are compatible with Minecraft. If you already have a Playstation 4, you can play Minecraft on the Playstation VR headset.

You might not be able to use the PS4 Minecraft with other headsets so we recommend using the Playstation VR headset as it’s fully compatible.

Unlike this, headsets using mobile devices are more compatible. Some examples are the Oculus Quest 2 and Oculus Rift as these work with several devices. So if you are thinking of purchasing a headset for Minecraft, we suggest the Oculus Quest 2.

How to Play Different Versions of Minecraft?

Minecraft for PC

First, you need to download Minecraft, the java version. You might be asked to download the Java+You application, so go ahead and install that as well. Next, you should launch Steam VR, only then you can open the Minecraft app.

After that’s done, select Vivecraft from the options available near the bottom of the screen and you’re good to go. You can start playing just like you would a normal Minecraft game.

Minecraft Bedrock Version

For the Minecraft bedrock edition, you will be needing a cable link and a VR-ready PC. For this, you will first need to install Minecraft from the Microsoft store. Before starting you can also try out a free trial.

Then, open the application on your Oculus Quest 2, the loading might take some time. But after it’s done loading you can go ahead and start playing.

Wireless

If you want to play without wires getting in your way, try the wireless method. However, it’s only available for the Minecraft Java Edition. You can do this with the virtual desktop of ALVR. We recommend the virtual desktop, it comes with a little price, but it’s reliable.

Firstly, you should open the virtual desktop app in your oculus quest 2. Once the virtual desktop is connected to your computer, you can go ahead and launch SteamVR. Now, all you have to do is launch Vivecraft on your computer to start playing.

Minecraft for Playstation VR

Minecraft works for PlayStation VR as well, so if you already own a PlayStation VR headset, you’re in luck. To start your gaming adventure, you need to update Minecraft on your PlayStation 4.

After that’s done, launch Minecraft on your PlayStation gaming device. Although mostly all the features are similar to the original game, in the VR version, the surroundings are in 3D mode.

When connected to the PlayStation, two modes appear there, the living room mode and the immersive mode. For a fully immersive experience, we recommend the immersive mode.

In the living room version, you can experience playing in your, well, living room. For the immersive version, the technology allows you to be in the game and move freely as if you were a part of the game.

Conclusion

Minecraft is already a fun and enjoyable game, and the VR version makes the gaming experience even better. Available on several platforms, the game is accessible to many of its fans.

With the players of the game increasing by the day, this new immersive experience is the next level of adventure for all of them. You will surely find a method fit for you in the above-given tutorials.

Even though the game is already popular, both single and multiplayer, it’s gaining more recognition with the VR experience. The users appreciate the possibility of experiencing the game close to reality.
