When you’re in a group setting, it’s a good idea to have your VR headset cast its gameplay to your TV.

This allows your friends to join in on the action as one person plays through the VR headset.

However, this can sometimes be confusing, and only a few VR headsets out there allow you to connect to a TV.

Quick Summary

In this post, we will discuss the following:

So without further ado, let’s get into it.

How to Connect the Oculus Quest 2 to a TV Using Your Phone?

You can easily utilize your Oculus Quest 2 to cast its gameplay to your TV as long as it has Chromecast capabilities.

If your TV does not have Chromecast, you can buy it separately and connect it to your PC for easy use.

The Chromecast device plugs into your TV and it can then be used to cast from external devices such as your phone or your VR headset.

Follow these steps to cast Oculus Quest 2 gameplay to your TV with your phone:

Step 1: First of all, you must ensure that both your phone as well as your Oculus Quest 2 headset are on the same wifi network. Your TV (or your Chromecast device, if you’re using that) should also be on the same wifi network.

Step 2: Launch your Oculus Quest 2 headset as well as your TV.

Step 3: Run the Oculus app on your smartphone.

Step 4: Once the app is open, look for the Cast icon on the top right hand side of the app window. The Cast icon is shaped like a headset that has waves coming out the top of it.

Step 5: When you load this entire setup for the first time, you’ll need to grant certain permissions to your local wifi network. This includes giving the Oculus app access to other devices on the wifi network. These devices would be either your TV or the Chromecast device.

Step 6: The app should automatically select your Oculus Quest 2 headset. If you have more than one headset or if it accidentally selects something else, then make sure that you select the Oculus Quest 2 headset from the drop-down list.

Step 7: Go to the “Cast to” section, and from here, you’ll either select your TV or your Chromecast device, depending on what you’re using.

If you don’t see either of the devices in the list, then make sure your TV is turned on or that your Chromecast is on and properly enabled.

Once you’re sure that your device is ready for detection, click on “Tap to search for other devices”. They should now show up in the list and you can select them.

Step 8: After the appropriate device is selected, click “Start” at the bottom of the screen to begin casting your VR headset’s gameplay to your TV screen.

How to Connect the Oculus Quest 2 to a TV Using the Headset?

You can also use just the Oculus Quest 2 headset itself to cast to a TV screen as well.

Follow these steps to do so:

Step 1: Turn on your Oculus Quest 2 headset as well as the TV that you wish to cast to.

Step 2: Ensure that both the Oculus Quest 2 as well as your TV is on the same wifi network. If your TV does not have wifi capabilities, again, you can use a Chromecast to connect it to your Oculus Quest 2.

Step 3: Put on your Oculus Quest 2, and you’ll be at the home screen for the Oculus platform.

On the right-hand side of the home screen, you’ll see the Utility panel. In the Utility panel, click on “Cast to”.

Step 4: A pop-up window will come up with a list of all the available devices that the Oculus Quest 2 can effectively cast to.

Once again, if your TV or Chromecast device does not show up here, then you should go ahead and check why that is.

Make sure your TV is connected properly to your home’s wifi network that you’re also using with your Oculus Quest 2 headset.

On the other hand, if you’re using a Chromecast device, then check to see if it’s properly turned on, properly connected to your TV, and properly enabled.

Step 5: After you ensure everything is properly connected, check the pop-up window again and select your TV or Chromecast device.

Step 6: You’ll see a notification pop-up that states that casting has started. You can take off your headset and peek a little at the TV to make sure things are being properly cast.

Once that’s ensured, you can get to enjoy your VR gaming session with your friends and peers.
