VR headsets are usually made of plastic, and they can be adjusted in a number of ways. Although wearing a VR headset for a long time can cause neck and eye strain, you can make it better with a few adjustments.

Let’s find out quick and easy ways how to adjust the VR headset.

How to Adjust VR Headset?

You can adjust your VR by following these steps:

  1. Press the button on top of your VR and hold it down until you hear a beep.
  2. Then press the button again, this time holding it in for about 5 seconds.
  3. Your headset should now be adjusted. If not, try adjusting them again.
  4. To exit out of VR mode, press the button on top of the headset once more.
  5. You will then see the menu screen with options such as “Exit” or “Settings”. Choose either one depending on what you want to do next.
  6. When you are done, simply release the button and your VR is back to normal!

Common VR Problems

The following is a list of common problems that you may encounter when using the Oculus Rift.

Headset Does Not Fit Properly

If you experience discomfort while wearing the headset, check if it fits properly. Make sure that the strap is snugly around your head and that the headset rests comfortably on your face.

Eyes Don’t Focus Well Enough

If you find that you cannot clearly see objects in front of you, it could mean that your eyes aren’t focusing properly. Try turning up the brightness of the display, or lowering the resolution.

Doesn’t Work at All

Make sure that you have plugged everything into the right port. Also, make sure that the power cable is connected to the correct side of the computer (i.e., the left side).

Issue Connecting to the PC

Try unplugging the USB cord from the headset and plugging it directly into the computer. This should fix the problem.

How to Properly Adjust a VR Headset?

To ensure a good gaming experience, it’s important that your headphones fit well on your face and your ears. This not only helps you enjoy games for longer periods of time but often also provides a better picture quality.

Some VR users who wear Virtual Reality headsets for the first time are surprised at the poor fit of the headset. They don’t adjust the straps on the sides, back, and/ or top.

For example, if the lens isn’t properly pressed against the user’s face, then the image quality suffers and the overall VR experiences become less immersive. This is a shame since the first impressions are usually the most important.

Untie All Straps

Loosen as many strap attachments as possible. By this, we mean the straps on the sides, backs, and tops of headsets.

Sometimes, you can loosen all the Velcro stickers and pull the straps backward, but sometimes, you need to turn an adjustment knob on the rear of the device to expand the size of the device.

Place the Headset Screen Against Your Eyes

Place the VR headset against your face. It is important to ensure that the images coming from the lens are displayed as clearly as possible. The “sweet spot” must be in the right position in front of your eyes for the best quality.

Tip: If you’re going to use VR goggles for the first time, tell people to hold the headsets like binoculars. People already know how binoculars work; they just need to be told how to use them.

Reattach All Straps

Once you’ve positioned the back of the glasses correctly on the back of your skull, you can then attach the rest of the strap system. Make sure that the front of the glasses is balanced against each other, and don’t put them too far forward or backward on your face.

Once the top of the headphones is placed on your ears, you can then fasten the top band of the headphones by tightening it until you can sense that the headphones are comfortable on your ears.

Make sure not to tighten this band too much, otherwise, you may notice that the bottom of the headphones will rise up slightly.

Set up IPD

Interpupillary distance (IPD) refers to the space between the pupils of an individual’s eye. When wearing VR headsets, the interpupillary distance must be matched with the lens spacing of the headset.

To adjust the volume on a headset, turn the dial on the top or the back of the headset. Adjust the dial until you hear the best sound quality for you.

Tip: The average IPD is 64mm. Typically this is in a range from 54mm to 72mm for most users.

Adjust the Headphones to the Correct Height

Some headsets have external speakers and microphones. After someone has put the headband on, you can adjust the volume of the speaker and microphone.

You should make sure that the speaker is placed correctly so that it does not block your ears. Also, make sure that the microphone is positioned properly so that it picks up your voice clearly.

Tip: The sound quality is very important for the immersive experience of the game, but can also cause people to feel isolated if they’re playing alone. If you want to avoid this, you can always put one earpiece at the right height and not the other.

Hide the Headset Cable

If you’re using a wired VR Head Mounted Display (HMD), you may want to consider routing the wire behind the HMD so that it doesn’t get tangled up when you put the HMD on.

To avoid having the wire run across your feet, move your view direction so that it goes behind your computer instead of in front of it.

Conclusion

We hope these tips help you get started with VR gaming.
