Snipe Elite VR is the first ever made-for-VR game in the long-running franchise. It offers satisfying sniping action, including its signature XR kill cam. But beyond the fun of shooting, the stories aren’t worth writing about.

Story
You play as an Italian resistance fighter instead of Karl Fairburne.
It was a good attempt at writing something interesting, but it wasn’t anything to write home about. We appreciated the attempt though.
It took us six hours to complete our first-ever marathon, which was definitely longer than we had anticipated.
Gameplay
Single-Player
Sniper Elite VR is a new WWII shooter for PSVR that takes place during the Second World War. It was developed by Rebellion Developments and published by Focus Home Interactive.
The game centers around a WWII Italian resistance hero telling his war stories.
Sniping
First and foremost, the game is about shooting people. And to that end, the developer has done a good job of bringing the feel of the series’ signature sniping action to virtual reality.
‘Focus’ Slow-Motion Feature
With its combination of a focus mode and a slow-motion feature, the snipers generally provide enough difficulty to be satisfying without becoming too challenging.
X-Ray Kill Cam
The cherry on top for the Sniper Rifle is its unique X‑Rays Kill Camera that lets you see exactly what part of the enemy you just shot.
It’s fun to see bones and teeth fly when you hit an annoying opponent.
Sandbox
Unfortunately, Sniper Elite VR doesn’t provide a particularly rich sandbox for players to explore.
Levels
The levels in video games are extremely forgettable because they don’t offer up enough different scenarios for players to remember them.
Close-Quarters Combat
There’s some close-quarter combat scattered throughout, but the close-range weapons aren’t given nearly enough attention as the snipers and end up lacking punch instead.
Immersion
Sniper Elite VR does some things really well for immersion but a whole bunch of things badly.
Gun Handling
Guns are fairly detailed. They’re loaded by hand, which means they need to be placed into magazines and then racked back into position.
Some guns may not be comfortable for some people when doing certain hand and grip poses.
World Interaction
While shooting is good, the lack of any kind of real-life interaction makes the experience feel incomplete. The game’s concept of interacting with most objects by reaching out and pulling their grips doesn’t really add anything to the gameplay.
Beyond that, you’ll quickly realize that most of the objects strewn across the map aren’t interactive at all, except for ammo crates and explosive barrels.
HUD
On its default setting, the game’s HUD makes immersion difficult.
You’ll be able to expect to be seeing white rings around any interactive objects, a “Killed” log appearing after each and every killed enemy, text-based ammunition counters, and a big “grenade” icon showing when a grenade is armed (and ready to use).
Luckily, there’s an option to disable the HUD altogether. However, if you want to use the HUD, you’re better off turning it down a couple of levels.
Level Structure
Another major flaw is the lack of any kind of pacing issues in Sniper Elite VR.
You’re a soldier facing harrowing situations during wartime, only to be brought out of them by a Mission Complete screen that gives you a bunch of statistics and a score before sending you back to a menu screen.
It ruins any sense of tension or emotional connection that the game’s story had been trying to create.
Comfort
Teleport
While the game offers an impressive number of different ways to customize your experience, the implementation of teleportation is so painfully slow that it would be difficult for us to recommend the game to someone who cannot use any other method of travel than teleportation.
Height Calibration
It appears there might be a problem with the height calibration which would always make you taller than you are supposed to be.
Holster Belt
At times, the holster belt was a bit annoying to reach because it rotated away from you when you tried to look down to see if there were any grenades to pick up or to count the number of bullets in the ammo pouches.

Conclusion
Sniper Elite VR isn’t perfect, but it nails the sniping and kills cams.
It’s a mechanic from a Sniper Elite series that has never gotten old, and the new VR version is just glorious.
With its low price tag and high-quality graphics, this is an easy recommendation for FPS gamers.
