In the latest update of the popular video game Destiny 2, the Season of the Seraph has introduced a new shader known as Iron Countershade. This unique addition to the game gives any armor that players apply it to a chainmail texture, making it a great match for the more knightly and medieval-looking armor sets.

Iron Countershade

Difficulty

While Iron Countershade is highly desirable, players will have to put in a significant amount of effort to obtain it. Along with the returning Iron Banner armor sets, players will have to complete a challenging process to unlock the shader.

Unlocking the Iron Countershade

To unlock Iron Countershade, players will need to reset their Iron Banner rank once, and then reach rank 16 again. The shader is the second-to-last reward on the prestige reputation track. However, there are a few factors that make the process more difficult.

Time Frame and Difficulty

The Iron Banner event is active only for two weeks, instead of the usual three, which means players will have to gain 17-ish ranks each week, this makes the process more challenging.

Additionally, the new area control game mode, Fortress, often ends up in close matches, and that can take longer to complete and increase the time required to get the shader.

Boosting Rep Gain

If you’re dead set on getting the shader, there are a few ways you can boost your Iron Banner rep gain:

  • Completing Iron Banner daily challenges, which awards 100% increased rep for matches played that week.
  • Equipping five Iron Banner weapons or armor pieces during matches. Iron Banner armor pieces with Iron Banner transmog ornaments applied to count for two, meaning you can also wear an exotic.
  • Equipping an Iron Banner emblem, you can get the Golden Standard emblem by claiming a gold Iron Banner medal.

Shortcut Strategies

Due to the time required to obtain the Iron Countershade shader, some players have resorted to losing matches on purpose to farm the 220xp, in order to reduce the time commitment.

Availability

It’s worth noting that, like past Iron Banners, this shader may not be available again after the event is over, making it even more desirable for players.

Comparison

While the process of obtaining an Iron Countershade shader is time-consuming, it is not as bad as some of the armor drop rates. Players can expect to spend more than 12 hours getting full sets of armor for all three classes.

Conclusion

The Iron Countershade shader is a unique and desirable addition to Destiny 2’s Season of the Seraph, but players will have to put in some effort to obtain it.

With the limited time of the Iron Banner Event, the new area control game mode, and the requirement of resetting the rank and reaching rank 16 again, it’s sure to be a challenging journey for players who are up for the challenge.
