In February, two great white sharks were seen as Canon launched the RF 800mm F5.6L IS USM and RF 1200mm F8L IS USM set of lenses, costing $37,000.

Although pricier at $20k, the 800mm was more noteworthy since it became the world’s longest autofocus lens for mirrorless cameras and weighed 1.3kg less than its predecessor in the EF mount.

I-Series Lens

Although small in size, Sigma recently introduced a new I-Series lens – a light 20mm f/2 DG DN wide-angle lens.

The fourth from the series, this lens measured a small 72mm in length and weighed only 370g, making it the perfect fit for lean E-mount and L-mount mirrorless cameras.

Sigma

Keeping up with the APS-C market, Sigma also released three Fujifilm X-mount prime lenses

  • 16mm f/1.4
  • 30mm f/1.4
  • 56mm f/1.4

ones that come with 24mm, 45mm and 84mm focal lengths respectively on Fujifilm cameras while still maintaining the same luminous aperture.

OM Digital Solutions

Whether you want to stay ahead of terrible winter weather conditions or not, we wrote about the cameras that provide the most excellent weather sealing.

Showcased by OM Digital Solutions, the star attractions were the OM System M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro II and the OM System M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4 Pro, both of which had outstanding weatherproofing capabilities of IP53 rating.

Tokina and Voigtländer

Additionally, Tokina revealed an 8mm f/2.8 fisheye lens for Fujifilm X and Sony E mount cameras. Voigtländer said that a 23mm f/1.2 lens for APS-C Fujifilm X and Nikon Z mount cameras is going to be released soon, while Irix announced sets of cine lenses with steep prices.

Trioplan

To end off February’s news, Meyer Optik Görlitz released Canon RF and Nikon Z-mount versions of the Trioplan 100mm f/2.8.

Tamron

The star of the February lens tests was the Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD, an amazing super-tele zoom for Sony full-frame E-mount cameras. It offers superior performance and at 1,725g is relatively light for a lens with such an impressive focal length.

Laowa

At the opposite end of the focal length range, we tested the Laowa 6mm T2.1 Zero-D Cine for Micro Four Thirds cameras, which yielded an effective 12mm focal length with very minimal visual flaws, but sadly there was no electronic communication with the host camera.

After testing, the Olympus M.Zuiko 14‑42mm f/3.5‑5.6 EZ has been crowned the champion of pancake lenses.
