Smartphones like the iPhone 13 Pro Max, Google Pixel 6, and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra pack powerful cameras that can rival some high-end digital DSLR cameras.

After returning from our hike or stroll through the city, it’s easy to simply forget the photos we took during our excursion and let them collect dust further and further down the gallery.

Creative photo editing can be a fun way to improve your photos no matter what kind of smartphone you use. It doesn’t matter whether you have the newest, most expensive smartphone with the best camera on the back or an old, cheap one.

There are tons of great free and paid image editing tools for iOS devices and Android phones out there.

Snapseed

Free on iOS and Android.

Google-owned SnapsEdit offers a wide range of photo editing features, including exposure and contrast adjustments, plus filters for both classic and modern looks.

You can use Photoshop to layer the effects together to get some cool results. And best of all it’s completely free.

Adobe Lightroom

Some features are available for free, while others cost $5 per month.

If you’re looking for a photo editor that offers the same features as Lightroom on a desktop, then Lightroom Mobile is worth checking out. It has no sticker, animation, or emoji options, but it gives you fine-grained control over your images and the same tools you would use in Lightroom on a computer.

Don’t forget to check the other latest releases and news.

Adobe Photoshop Express

Available for free on both iOS and Android.

Photoshop Express has many similar functions to Lightroom, including exposure and contrast adjustments, but removes some of the professional tools and replaces them with free alternatives. Crucially, it doesn’t charge for its services.

It’s a great way to tweak your photos to bring out their best. You’ll also find a good selection of filters and overlays, as well as tools to create cool collages from your photos.

It’s not as creative as some other apps on this page, but it’s an excellent editor for a reasonable price.

Prisma

iOS and Android, free for 30 days, then $8 per month or $30 per year.

Prisma doesn’t offer any basic image correction tools. Its trippy filter effects will turn your photos into often bizarre art pieces.

The results look like paintings and some of the effects are similar to those used by painters such as Salvador Dali or Pablo Picasso. However, not every effect works well with every photo.

Bazaart

Only for iPhone, $8 per month or $48 per annum.

Bazaart’s montages and collages let you combine multiple different images, texts, and graphics into one finished piece of artwork.

It has tools that allow you to instantly remove the backgrounds from portraits so you can replace them with different ones, plus a huge selection of beautiful templates to help you make stunning collages for Instagram Stories.

There are so many ways you could combine different images together that the boundaries between them will be determined by how creative you feel at any given time.

Photofox

Only for iOS devices.

With Bazaart, Photofox has some powerful tools for removing objects from a background, letting you composite in new backgrounds or applying cool filters.

With Bazaart, you can create an infinite number of designs by layering and composited different image elements together.

VSCO

iOS and Android, with limited features for free, or $10 per month with a seven-day trial.

VSCO began as an application for editing photos in Adobe Lightroom. Today, rather than offering stickers and animations for Snapchat users, VSCO offers more artistic filters for Instagrammers.

It has a wide variety of preset styles, ranging from ones designed to mimic classic roll films from Fuji, Kodak, and even Ilford.

It has a great selection of black and white filters, so it’s a good choice for experimenting with if you’re into moody monochrome photos.

PicsArt

iOS and Android, no limit on features for free or $48 per year for the entire suite.

Picasa has a wide variety of photo editors available to you, including basic adjustments like brightness and contrast, to more advanced features like cinematic coloring and dramatic filters that turn your photos into paintings.

There are lots of ways to edit your photos before posting them online. You can use apps like PicsArt to change the color of your skin, add filters, and even create an Instagram-like social media experience.
