The new iPad 10th generation comes with some neat features, but at a price tag, that’s slightly higher than its predecessor.

Modern Design

Following the iPhone X’s lead, Apple has ditched the iconic home button for an entirely flat display.

Size

It’s resulted in more screen space, with Apple choosing to go with a 10.9-inch screen rather than the 10.2-inch screen on the previous generation.

Touch ID

Apple hasn’t compromised security by embedding its fingerprint sensor into the iPhone’s Home button, which is easy to access when using the phone in portrait and/or in landscapes.

Type-C Port

A new feature is the inclusion of a USB Type-C port instead of the Lightning port.

Weight

It weighs 477 grams, so it’s easy to carry around.

Recycled

Contrary to the common belief that recycling materials may result in inferior products, the tablet feels sturdy even with its 100 percent recyclable aluminum case.

Screen

iPad Pros are all about screen size and touch responsiveness. And this new model doesn’t let us down.

Resolution

With an edge-to-edge display measuring 10.9 inches diagonally, a 2360×1640 resolution, and 500 nits of brightness, the Galaxy Note 9 offers good visibility outdoors.

Apple’s True Tone

It has an IPS display, which means it displays colors accurately regardless of the lighting conditions.

Modes

The tablet has been designed to use in both portrait and landscape modes.

Front Camera

Finally, Apple has made a major change by moving the front camera from the vertical bezel to the landscape position. This makes a big impact on FaceTime video calling when placed above the keyboard.

Power

This iPad belongs to one of the lower-end models and doesn’t include Apple’s powerful M1 or M3 chips. Despite having an A14 Bionic chip, there aren’t any issues in its performance.

Multitasking

A lot of the improvements in iOS 13 come from the fact that Apple has been refining its operating system for several generations now. Features like a sidebar view and drag-and-drop make it much easier to work with.

If you’ve ever used an Apple laptop, then you know the dock at the bottom of the screen. It’s a shortcut for the applications you want to use quickly. And it also lets you access frequently used programs without having to open them from scratch.

Folio Case

Apple has announced a new folio case for its new iPad. It has a two-piece construction; one piece holds the tablet securely on a flat surface, and the second part protects the screen from scratches.

Keyboard

The second is the wireless Bluetooth keyboard that can also fold up into a stand. Unlike the Magic Keyboard which cannot be placed on the lap when working on a desk, this one can be quite useful if you need to work on a desk for long periods of time.

The keyboard has a dedicated function row and trackpad. However, this isn’t bundled, and you will have to shell out an additional Rs 24,900.

Pencil Support

Apple has added some new features to this tab including the ability to charge the Pencil using an iPad charger. However, there are no known compatibility problems with the Pencil when used with the iPad Pro.

If you’re going to buy an iPad Pro, you might want to consider the new USB-C to ApplePencil Adapter instead of the old one. It costs Rs 9,000 but comes with a free case.

A good laptop has a long-lasting power supply. This one lasted me a full working week without any issues. If you use it for just two hours daily, it will last longer than five days.

Conclusion

Like iPhones, which most people upgrade every two years, iPads usually don’t get replaced until they’re four or five years old. If you want to purchase an entry-level iPad, the 9th generation iPad with the 10.2-inch display and Lightning port is still a good choice.

But if you’re not stretching for budget, this 10-gen starting at Rs 45,000 should be on your short-listed models. However, these are the entry-tier variants with just 64GB internal storage and no option for expansion memory.

So, be it any variant, it would be wise to go for the 256GB variant but that would mean another Rs 15,000.
