Recent tests using Geekbench demonstrate that the Core i9-13980X is notably faster than Core i9-12900K and Core i9-12900HX.

Intel’s Raptor Lake CPUs Look to Be Powerful Mobile Processors.

Several leaks and rumors have given us an idea of Intel’s Raptor Lake mobile CPUs’ potential performance. The upcoming Core i9-13980HX is already beginning to show its power via Geekbench, producing excellent single and multi-core benchmark results.

Intel’s numbers appear to indicate that the Raptor Lake CPUs will be incredibly powerful.

The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2023 is coming up soon, bringing us excitement for new processors, GPUs, and laptops. Intel will also be officially revealing its mobile Raptor Lake CPUs in January of 2023.

Assessing the Performance of the Raptor Lake Mobile Chips

Subsequently, there has been more discussion about Raptor Lake mobile chips’ performance; for example, recently there was a Geekbench result for the yet-to-be-released Core i9-13900HX which showed better performance than that of the Core i9-12900K.

Furthermore, the Core i9-13980HX has appeared on Geekbench and showed a remarkable performance.

The Core i9-13980HX, seen here, was tested inside an ASUS ROG Strix laptop labeled “G814JZ_G814JZ_00028449A” that also featured 32GB of unspecified RAM.

The Core i9-13980HX has a base frequency of 2.39 GHz and a boost frequency of 5.38 GHz. With this setup, the processor scores 2,139 (single-core) and 21,303 (multi-core) points in Geekbench 5.4.

Leaked Geekbench scores of the Core i9-13900HX show that the Core i9-13980HX is about 5% faster in single-core tasks and almost 2% faster in multi-core tasks.

Increased Clock Speeds

Presumably, the noticeable boost in single-core processing is due to higher clock speeds. The minor performance gain in multi-core tasks can be attributed to them both having a 24-core/32-thread setup.

To give you an idea of Raptor Lake mobile CPU’s expected performance in the end, the Core i9-13980HX is much faster than the Alder Lake desktop flagship, the Core i9-12900K in terms of both single-core and multi-core tasks. Hence, moving on from there.

Testing Single & Multithreaded Processes

Comparing the Core i9-13980HX and Core i9-12900K using Geekbench averages, the latter was found to be 7% slower in single-threaded tests and 20% slower in multi-threaded tests.

It’s not surprising that the Core i9-13980HX is much faster than the 12th gen Core i9-12900HX, with a single-core improvement of 12% and a multi-core improvement of 31%.

Remember that Intel has not yet released any confirmation of their Raptor Lake mobile CPUs, so make sure to take these results with caution until we have the actual performance measurements from available hardware.
